Containg all of the members from previous incarnations, (before three of them left to join Death) this shows a difference in style from most of the death metal being made at the start of the 90's. Kam Lee's vocals were one of the low end, which isn't surprising, but they didn't concentrate on death at all when it came to lyrics. Out of all the songs I remember, only "Corpsegrinder" deals with death, whereas the other songs deal with slightly more abstract ideas, but mainly alien life forms. The lyrics are very well written, and the copy of this with "Inhuman Condition" as a bonus has the only recording I know of with a non-whammy bar infested solo by Rick Rozz, along with a Venom cover actually featuring a member of Venom (Cronos of course...).

Probably not one for casual fans of the genre, and more for people like me who like to find out the "family tree" of the bands I like, and get interested in all side bands.... Still, a decent slab of competent death metal.

FROM BEYOND!! 16 Aug 2004
By Gavin Moore VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
One of THE best Death Metal albums EVER created (in my opinion). This band changed the whole scene in the early 90's from the thrashy early sound of death metal to a newer deeper death metal sound giving it more of a presence and a more guttural, hard edge.
Kam Lee's vocals are phenomenal, deeper and more growled than anything I heard previous to this offering. Rick Rozz's guitar work also different to what I'd heard before with some of the wildest guitar solo's I've ever heard in my life, in my opinion helped make Massacre, well "Massacre".

This is a re-release of the 1991 album "From Beyond" with 1992's EP "Inhuman Condition" added as a bonus (which would be very hard to find now on it's own) but this bulks the once relatively short album up to a nice big chunk of metal! :)

One thing's for sure, I can listen to this album now along with some of the death metal out today and it still sounds as valiant as ever and not as dated as some other early death metal releases.

Check out 1996's "Promise" album too. A different (more metal) direction for Massacre but it still has some of the early characteristics of From Beyond. A good album in it's own right.

Kam Lee is now in KAULDRON and SOUL SKINNER.

One of the best 7 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD
20 years after its initial release this is still one of the best Floridian Death metal albums ever. I was fortunate enough to go and watch these guys in manchester back in 1991 on the albums release and what a night that was. Anyway as for the album: I bought it on a whim after a KKKKK review in Kerrang. I wasn't into death metal at that point - mainly Sabbath, Led Zep etc and initially disliked the death vocal style. After buying this album I loved it. Great lyrics, great vocals, layered guitars, and huge whammy bar solos. What's not to love? Released back in the days when Earache could do no wrong. Napalm Death and Carcass were releasing (relatively) massive hits!? Roadrunner had Obituary, Sepultura, and Deicide. Early 90s metal was just great. And that's without mentioning the forerunner in Death. How the world misses Chuck and his inspiration. Get 'em all.
