Product Description

The strange saga of American architecture in the twentieth century makes for both high comedy and intellectual excitement as Wolfe debunks the European gods of modern and postmodern architecture and their American counterparts. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the cover:

Do you like modern architecture? Can you consider the squat concrete blockhouses and dust-balsted skyscrapers which disfigure our everyday lives without doubting the sanity of the architects who designed them? In this book the sharpest social critic of our time asks why we have not got the architecture we deserve, and launches a devastating and timely attack on the hideous follies of modern architecture.

Interesting but dated 16 July 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
An interesting short read from Tom Wolfe, not as engaging as Wolfe's The Right Stuff, but recommended if you have an interest in modern architecture (up to the 1980's at least), especially if you have a feeling it has become disconnected from human need!
