I'm disgusted at myself for not having got this album sooner, I've been a fan of primus for years and this is the album that contains most of my favourite tracks from dancing like a silly b*gger at rock clubs in the mid nineties. Too many puppies, John the Fisherman, To defy the laws of tradition are stand out tracks but this album is consistently good. if you like any of the primus you've heard, it'll probably be on this album.

This should be the first purchase of anyone into primus as it is probably the only album which you can listen through in one sitting even if you are not over-familiar with all the tracks. The other albums (like Sailing in the seas of cheese) contain some very phunky tracks (like Jerry was a race car driver or Tommy the cat) but also contain a lot of filler stuff which is not as worth a listen and can be a bit off-putting...

If you've never heard primus and you're into anything like the chilli peppers or mr bungle, buy this, the bass playing is awe-inspiring but the guitar, drum work and singing are spot on too. The best funky, funny, bass-orientated, rock album there is

unbelieveable 19 Jan 2005

For those of you new to Primus you have a lot of wasted years to make up for!!! Here's a quick filler for you... Primus rock! Les Claypool is the greatest bassist of all time, he does things with a bass guitar that defy the imagination, the band as a whole consists of 3 fantastic musicians who would rather be fisherman than in a band but happen to be tallented enough to do both...

On to the album, Frizzle Fry was the album that got me into Primus and I have to say it is a work of genius. The story goes a little something like this... Les and the boys walked into the studio, some of the songs had been written, some hadn't, they jammed their hearts out, fooled around, made things up as they went along and if you listen hard enough you will even hear the sound of a bass string breaking and Les playing on regardless (unheard of!)the album was recorded in one hit, no re-working, no re-recording... wow!

The album has a sarcastic string running through the lyrics, the most incredible bass sounds imagineable and a feel to it that can only come from musicians truly having fun and enjoying what they do. This is a must own album for fans of the unusual, non-mainstream sounds, after all 'to defy the laws of tradition is a crusade only for the brave...'

Excellent Album 30 Nov 2008

Im a heavy music fan, the likes of Pantera, Mastodon, Eyehategod etc... but also take an interest in softer music providing it has something in it i like. I bought this album after listening to a few Primus songs on the net ( Mr Krinkle, My name is mud ). When i listened to it, i was amazed at not only Claypools brilliance on the bass, but also the structure of the songs, the fantastic smooth drumming of Tim Alexander (Im also a drummer) and the way they take serious subjects but bring them across in a sarcastic and funny way, mixing between soft funky beats in to quite heavy alternative rock. The funky stuff is musically brilliant and the heavy stuff is heavy enough even for people like me! Every song is a good one and never gets boring, the production of this is great, you can hear every instrument perfectly! This is a must for musicians or anyone looking for "a bit more" than what they already listen too. This band is like a silly version of Rage against the machine in my opinion, but musically more skilled with a better drummer, and a better bassist. Fantastic album, their best!! AS ALL PRIMUS FANS KNOW.... PRIMUS SUCK =)
