Product Description

Product Description
Is Nick Allen a troublemaker? He really just likes to liven things up at school -- and he's always had plenty of great ideas. When Nick learns some interesting information about how words are created, suddenly he's got the inspiration for his best plan ever...the frindle. Who says a pen has to be called a pen? Why not call it a frindle? Things begin innocently enough as Nick gets his friends to use the new word. Then other people in town start saying frindle. Soon the school is in an uproar, and Nick has become a local hero. His teacher wants Nick to put an end to all this nonsense, but the funny thing is frindle doesn't belong to Nick anymore. The new word is spreading across the country, and there's nothing Nick can do to stop it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calling all kids! Read this book!, 15 Jan 2004
I have to say Frindel is one of the best books I've read in my life. No childrens novel comes close to this one. The idea of this book is amazing. It's serious yet funny at the same time. All young readers will laugh at this masterpiece. I can honestly say I didn't want this book to end and I was so sad when I got to the last few pages. This is probabbly the first book I could say grabbed me when I read it. I really didn't want to read this but I had to. We had to pick up book from the school library and unfortunettly I was the last one to the library so I didn't get much of a selection so I just grabbed a book off the shelf and it happened to be Frindel. I started reading it and first I wasn't looking forward to reading it but once I started the first chapter I couldn't stop reading it.
All young readers, read this book. I can almost guarantee you'll love it. It's great for a book report or a book club or just for fun. Get out to your loca bookstore as fast as you can and buy this book, you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frindle is a not too serious with an interesting subject., 13 April 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Frindle (Hardcover)
Our book group was divided on how we felt about the book we read. Frindle by Andrew Clements is a book that is good for grade levels 2nd-4th. The book is fiction and persuasive and the tone is not too serious. It takes place mostly in school. The book is about a boy who is sick of saying th word PEN, so Nick starts to tell everyone to to use the word FRINDLE, but most of the adults hate the word frindle, especially the teacher Mrs. Granger. One of us did not like the book because she thought it was too long and did not like Nick's imagination. Two of us liked the book because of the subject and the way that Nick makes up a new word.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rebel proves the "pen" is truly mighty., 7 Jun 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Frindle (Hardcover)
This book reminds me of the folktale "Master of all Masters"- for often inventing a new language can be disastrous. Though Nick is clever and due to word of mouth his experiment succeeds, the teacher is the real heroine in this book. The letter at the end shows her foresight and confidence in her student. Kids may love it for its rebellion, but I like it because in the end- its the teacher who helps the student succeed.
