Amazon.co.uk Review

At a time when mainstream comedy has been overtaken by rambling, pleasingly sloppy Judd Apatow-type improv-fests, director Will Gluck has been quietly doing his part to remind folks that sticking to the script and having a destination in mind can be fun, too. Much like his earlier Easy A, Friends with Benefits is a clever, just-this-side-of-painfully-hip relationship comedy that knows when to linger over a punch line and when not to break stride. A few minor speed bumps aside (filmmakers: can we can it with the musical montages, already?), it goes down extremely easy. The story in a nutshell: frustrated by the lack of viable dating options in their vicinity, two platonic friends (Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake) decide to embark on a casual, no-strings-attached physical relationship. However, as a briefly glimpsed clip from Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice foreshadows, things don't stay simple for very long. As opposed to the standard PG-13 rom com, things get surprisingly raunchy here, but organically so, with the slight snafus and briefly major embarrassments that should ring true to most relationship veterans. As in Easy A, Gluck has assembled a fantastically game supporting cast, including Woody Harrelson, Jenna Elfman, and especially the great Richard Jenkins and Patricia Clarkson as two vastly different parental figures, but it's really the two leads' show. Whether arguing the virtues of the band Kriss Kross or engaging in activities unprintable on an all-ages website, Timberlake and Kunis display the snappy back-and-forth of a classic cinematic coupling. When they're cooking, you don't want to be anywhere else. --Andrew Wright

Product Description

Please note this is a region B Blu-ray and will require a region B or region free Blu-ray player in order to play.

Dylan (Justin Timberlake) is done with relationships. Jamie (Mila Kunis) decides to stop buying into the Hollywood clichés of true love. When the two become friends they decide to try something new and take advantage of their mutual attraction - but without any emotional attachment. Physical pleasure without the entanglements. Sounds easy enough for two logical adults, right? Not so much. They soon realise romantic comedy stereotypes might exist for a reason.

FWB 4 Feb 2012

I'm going to assume that we all know by now that this is a film that eventually finishes with a fairly typical rom-com ending. But come on, if you seriously think that it shouldn't end this way, ask yourself how you would rather it ended. It is the journey that this film takes getting there that makes this such an enjoyable flick.
The premise is simple - Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) decide that adding sex to their relationship is a great idea because its just physical. Eventually, they decide mutually to stop but remain friends and as the film progresses further we get to know them, and their families, and all their problems.
The fact is that there are not many movies I have enjoyed more than this, and this romcom just felt streets ahead of many others I have watched - the acting is good and it was something that a lot of romcoms aren't - it was very funny. Timberlake held his own with Kunis, and the supporting cast of Woody Harrelson (Tommy, the gay GQ sports editor), Patricia Clarkson (Lorna, Jamie's mum) and Richard Jenkins, who plays Dylan's father, provided some really good scenes (my favourite being the scenes between Dylan and his dad).
The sex scenes were well written, well acted, and well directed, managing to be fairly raunchy without going over the top. The dialogue was also really well written, and it was fun to watch Kunis and Timberlake play off eachother throughout the movie. Highly recommended.

Quite a good movie 27 Mar 2012

It's rather confusing that both this film and "no strings attached" came out fairly close to each other. But I have to say that after having seen both films, this one is my favourite.

The film has some funny moments, and is a good choice for a movie night in, whether that be with the girls or the other half. Both Mila and Justin are good in their roles, and the movie is surprisingly good.

After watching 'No String Attached', I assumed that this film would be more or less the same thing. I was right, except I found the characters more relatable, believable and less cringeworthy! It's the same sort of storyline - two friends decide to take their friendship to the next level and add sex into the equation, which we all know can only result in one thing.

Mila Kunis plays Jamie, a young headhunter who desperately wants to fall in love and be swept of her feet. Dylan played by Justin Timberlake who has moved to New York for a job at a top men's magazine, thanks to the persuasion of Jamie. He's your typical romcom hero who is afraid to commit to anything. Both characters are played well, and the chemistry between the leads made the sex scenes comfortable to watch and humorous in parts.

The supporting cast is also well acted with Richard Jenkins as Dylan's father, Patricia Clarkson as Jamie's hippy mother, and with comical contributions from Woody Harrelson in a role you wouldn't usually see him in.

Overall, I found this film enjoyable and would recommend to all.
