Biography

Emerging in 1966, Canned Heat was founded by blues historians and record collectors Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson and Bob "The Bear" Hite. They gained international attention and secured their niche in the pages of rock 'n roll history with their performances at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival (along with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Who) and the headlining slot at the ... Product Description

Product Description

The 36th album by a group named Canned Heat, this particular line-up formed at the end of 1999 around veteran member, drummer Fito de la Parra. However, also popping in to guest on a couple of tracks (including a revision of "Let's Work Together") are former members Larry Taylor and Harvey Mandel, while another alumnus, Walter Trout, sings and plays on his own composition, "Home To You". Even more famous guests are blues great Taj Mahal (vocals on "Never Get Out Of These Blues Alive"), slide guitar master Roy Rogers ("Bad Trouble") and the late, legendary John Lee Hooker. Although Hooker died in 2001 he appears with the inclusion of a previously unissued track ("Little Wheel") from his own 1989 album, The Healer, which also featured Canned Heat's de la Parra, Larry Taylor and Henry Vestine (himself now deceased). This heavyweight guesting in no ways detracts from the contributions of the other mrmbers of the present line-up, Stan Behrens(flute, sax, harmonica, vocals), Dallas Hodge (vocals, guitar), John Paulus (guitar) and Greg Kage (bass guitar, vocals). Definitely Canned Heat's strongest album in many years and all of this specially packaged in an actual tin can. Don't forget to boogie!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT HEAT FAN 18 May 2004

I DON'T KNOW WHICH FRIENDS IN THE CAN THE GUY ABOVE ME HEARD, BUT THE ONE I HEARD WAS ONE OF THEIR BEST CD'S EVER!! IRONICLY, I WOULD ONLY AGREE THAT THE NEW VERSION OF LETS WORK TOGETHER IS ONLY AVERAGE, BUT THE REST OF THE TRACKS ARE TRUELY FABULOUS. GREAT BLUES, GREAT ROCK, GREAT SOUND. I HAVE BEEN A HEAT FAN FOR 35 YEARS, I'M NOT A TEENYBOPPER REVIEWER!!!! YOU WON'T FORGET TO BOOGIE!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars This Version Doesn't Seem To Work Together! 18 July 2003
By deepbluereview - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Canned Heat has continued to endure over the years despite several lineup changes. On this latest release, drummer de la Parra, who has been a member of Canned Heat since 1967, dusts off the bands name and assembles a new version of the Heat with guests, Roy Rogers, Corey Stevens, Walter Trout, Taj Mahal and John Lee Hooker. The result is a mediocre release that does not quite capture the heyday of the original Canned Heat. Even the remakes of "Let's Work Together" and "Getaway" lack the magic of the original releases. The band seems to be relying on fan loyalty or name ID to garner sales. This appears evident by the decision to also include an early version of "Let's Work Together" performed by Harvey Mandel and Little Wheel featuring John Lee Hooker. Overall, considering some of the legendary hits release by the Heat over the years, this one is far from satisfying.
