A US sitcom behemoth with a global brand, Friends shot out of the gate in 1994 with snappy writing and an attractive cast. The exploits of sensitive paleontologist Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), his obsessive-compulsive sister Monica Geller (Courteney Cox); Monica's roommate Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), a spoiled rich girl trying to live on her own; earthy aromatherapist/masseuse Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow); and Monica's neighbours across the hall -- sarcastic Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) and his struggling actor roommate Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) became a nationwide obsession, a pop-culture icon (remember "The Rachel" haircut?) and a ratings hit for its entire run.
The first two seasons were mostly centered on the on-off saga of Ross and Rachel, and while their relationship remained a strong presence through romantic rivals and even a baby, the other characters eventually moved from sideshow players into a shared comedic lead. But Friends was not without its heart. Most of the cast had dysfunctional relationships with their parents and went through loss, divorce, marriage, parenthood, and love triangles. The emotional pregnancies of Rachel (by Ross) and Phoebe (surrogate to her half-brother's triplets) won the actresses Emmy Awards, and Joey's tender feelings for Rachel in Season 8 won LeBlanc, the most improved actor in the series, a nomination.
Most sitcoms run out of ideas by the fifth season, but Friends gave itself a refreshing jolt the minute Monica and Chandler wound up in bed together. Their budding romance was not only the one of the funniest arcs of the series, but one of the most sentimental, as they planned a wedding, struggled to have a child and eventually turned to adoption. By seasons seven and onwards, the characters had each "grown up" from young singletons to thirtysomethings finding permanence in their careers and love lives but never losing the laughs.
Friends featured a parade of celebrity guests, but utilised most of the stars as more than mere cameos: The sextet's parents were all brilliantly cast, particularly Kathleen Turner as Chandler's drag-queen father and Teri Garr as Phoebe's dizzy mom. Everyone from George Clooney to Sean Penn to Julia Roberts to Bruce Willis has appeared on the sitcom, and Tom Selleck certainly enjoyed a career resuscitation after his recurring role as Monica's older man.
But no star power ever penetrated the bond between the six stars and their unmatchable chemistry worked for ten seasons. Chandler and Monica finish packing for their move to the suburbs, and the friends bid each other an emotional goodbye

I have owned the single DVDs for each series and collected as I went but decided to splash out on this 15th Anniversary Box Set. I received it yesterday and can honestly say it is money well spent. Not only does it come in a lovely presentation box but there are bundles of extras.
1) All episodes are the extended US versions which means some people who have the single DVD versions won't have this.
2) Each Series box contains 4 single sided DVDs which is a major plus. Previously the series was put on double sided DVDs and the labelling wasn't very clear. Now you get 4 discs per series.
3) In addition to the episodes for each series you get extras on every single disc. I won't describe each one as they are listed on the Amazon product page. However, die hard Friends fans will be pleased to see that you get some great extras such as my favourites which are:-
Gag Reels from series 1-4 and 6-10 (not sure what happened to series 5)
Interactive Trivia game
An hour long behind the scenes documentary
The Friends stars thoughts as the final series comes to a close.
4) You also receive a nice Episode guide book. The book details each episode with a description and pictures. You also get an additional few pages at the back detailing some of the more famous props.
5) The DVDS come with Dutch and English subtitles.
My overall opinion is that this box set is well priced and an absolute must have. The box set isn't too bulky so fits nicely in with other DVDs and also looks particularly nice in its presentation box.
If you are a fan then order yourself one today....you won't regret it!

I must admit that I am a big fan of the show for quite a while and therefore having all episodes neatly packed together already had me satisfied. But the 15th Anniversary Collection box offers way more.
1. The Box:
- it is really compact (~the size of 10 normal dvd cases put together)and doesnt take much space
- nice design (kind of classy and special) with all its content on the back and pictures of the friends in the famous frame (boys only, girls only and all together)
- easy to open (just lift the top)
- the box is of good quality and just perfect the way it is and eventhough I tried I didnt manage to picture a better one
2. The DVDs:
- ten normal sized dvd cases containing 4 dvds per season
- the dvds in the case are hold by two robust plastic retainer kind of things at front and back and quite easy to handle
- the dvds are of a very good quality and each has as cover a picture of one friends cast and dvd number
- each dvd case has a different picture of the whole cast as cover, two pictures of scenes from the show a/o cast in the back and on the inside and a table of the dvd contents (episodes and extras) also on the inside
- to sum it up the dvds are almost as good as stand alone ones; which I liked very much about the whole thing
3. The Booklet:
- the extra booklet is designed very nicely with alot of pictures frome scenes, casts, places and other stuff from the show
- it contains an introduction from the three writers/producers explaining their ideas for the show and characters
- there is a short description for each of the 236 episodes
- like the other stuff so far it is good to handle and of a very good quality
4. The Extras:
- there extras on every fourth dvd (last in each case/season)
- the box features really alot of extras and the best thing is most of them are really good (and none of them really bad)
- to name some there are many many gag reels, interviews with co-stars, interactive games and quizess (I liked the interactive tour in the central perk best)and also many episodes with commentary from the producers/writers (randomly on dvds, not only the last ones)
- the extras really help to get background information about all the crew, the casts, the places and how the hole show was just put together to such a successful and simply really good sitcom that so many people around the world enjoyed so much
5. The Show:
well, I can say many things about friends so I try to keep it short. I really like the show because it is intelligently put together, so well acted that it seems the cast was born for their parts, they all seemed to enjoy what they do so much and because the whole show is a very good mix of a great comedy sitcom and a show you like to follow the story-line all together
I really have nothing negative to say about the box or the show, that I just finished watching for the second time.
I ordered this box from amazon.uk to send it to germany as it was about half the price that way than having ordered it from amazon here. so thanks a bunch to amazon.uk and I hope all of you that like the show will go for the box, whether you already have the stand alone dvds or another box, as it is a real great package and of course all of you that didnt see friends, go for it, the show is really worth a watch !

I have the black box edition of this. I was impressed by that but unimpressed by the special features. I bought this for the additional features and am going to sell the Black box edition.

This isn't much of a review. More me saying that this IS the best Friends box set out there. The Seasons are are inn better cases, single side disks, smaller all season box. In my opinion better box art. Full episodes the ones aired in America. Unseen parts in UK.
If you don't have the 10 season box set and are thinking of getting it. This is the best of the three money will buy you.
