The record label's blurb hails this opus to be: "a heady mix of lush electronica, world flavours and muted beats from cinematic groove merchants". Okay, I'll buy into that - despite the use of the phrase "groove merchants".

What truly won me over was the blend of instruments: flutes and violins complementing the keyboards and (most of) the vocals. It reminds me of hazy summers: relaxed and basking in sunshine. If you liked Honeyroot and the lounge sound of Zero Seven and their ilk, you're going to love this.

The only reason it didn't get five stars was the dubious choice of including a rap in one of the songs giving it a kind of easy-listening Faithless feel. You might like that - I thought it jarred a bit.

a really peaceful album with a hint of spanish at times.the pair have obviously raided the sampling cabinet but on this cd but it all comes together most excellently.it is one i have enjoyed most whilst gazing out of a window dreaming.
if you like relaxed beats awash with drifting melodies then you will enjoy this.

Although bettered by the bands second record `Valley of the Bears', Laroca's debut CD is still an excellent journey and well worth picking up.

For me this record will always conjure images of the south of France with its North African migrants. `Looking like Lions' contains a wonderful Moroccan percussion married to classic French style synths. The dreamy `La Douleur Exquise' kicks off proceedings (and yes it does ache) and sets the tone for a chilled 50 minutes.

`Plage Lodo' is immense and arguably, the second best track the guys have ever written. The first has to be `The Elevator Tester'. `Latin' and `The Daa Daa Shuffle' continue the French theme, the urge to uncork a merlot and smoke a gauloise is just too tough to resist.
