Space, a wonderful frontier 2 May 2009
By Amy E. Begay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The story of two women from different backgrounds who at one time shared everything growing and learning at the "Academy". But the political arena of space makes them choose between duty and what is "right".
One becomes a successful officer for the Empire. The other a smuggler and pirate.
Sounds like Star Wars right? Ah maybe a little of the same loose theme but certainly not the same.
If you like rogue space smugglers and a women in uniform you will like this tale. I did. Of course I am also a Stars Wars nut.
The writing was pretty good. Maybe could have better editing.
Would love to find out what happens next in the series.

Space Opera with Charm 12 Aug 2010
By Ninni - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Marquette uses the classic tropes of space opera and romance fiction to create a lively, entertaining, and very readable novel. The characters have more depth and complexity than most, and the love story is compelling and believable. The world-building is nicely handled, without too much "as you know, Bob"-ing. Strong pacing and plenty of action make *Friends in High Places* a really pleasant way to spend an evening. I'm looking forward to the sequels!

Please, Let There be a Sequel 9 Sep 2009
By K. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've never read anything by Andi Marquette, but I certainly hope to do so again in the very near future. Only a sometimes fan of science-fiction settings, I found this book to be quite good, albeit short. Marquette brings us a complex love story between the perceived good and bad of society.

Torri is an outlaw who lives under the proverbial radar. Kai is a rising military leader with the coalition. They were roommates at the academy, but never actied on their mutual, unspoken attraction. That held true until they unexpectedly meet up again in one of the coalition colonies. Both risk it all for one night of passion.

Some time later they cross paths again while Kai is monitoring a highsecurity operation and Torri is planning to make an illegal withdrawal. Working together, Kai begins to prove to Torri that she is loyal. Torri starts learning that Kai can be trusted. Then... the book ends. Although it is set up very nicely for a sequel, it certainly left this reader looking for more.

Bottom Line - Great start. Here's hoping Marquette keeps the story going.
