A US sitcom behemoth with a global brand, Friends shot out of the gate in 1994 with snappy writing and an attractive cast. The exploits of sensitive paleontologist Ross Geller (played by David Schwimmer), his obsessive-compulsive sister Monica Geller (Courteney Cox, now Cox-Arquette); Monica's roommate Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), a spoiled rich girl trying to live on her own; earthy aromatherapist/masseuse Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow); and Monica's neighbours across the hall -- sarcastic Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) and his struggling actor roommate Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) became a nationwide obsession, spawned pop-culture trends (remember "The Rachel" haircut?) and was a ratings hit for its entire run.

The first two seasons were mostly centered on the on-off saga of Ross and Rachel, and while their relationship remained a strong presence through romantic rivals and even a baby, the other characters eventually moved from sideshow players into a shared comedic lead. But Friends was not without its heart. Most of the cast had dysfunctional relationships with their parents and went through loss, divorce, marriage, parenthood, and love triangles. The emotional pregnancies of Rachel (by Ross) and Phoebe (surrogate to her half-brother's triplets) won the actresses Emmy Awards, and Joey's tender feelings for Rachel in Season 8 won LeBlanc, the most improved actor in the series, a nomination.

Most sitcoms run out of ideas by the fifth season, but Friends gave itself a refreshing jolt the minute Monica and Chandler wound up in bed together. Their budding romance was not only the one of the funniest plot arcs of the series, but one of the most sentimental, as they planned a wedding, struggled to have a child and eventually turned to adoption. By seasons seven and onwards, the characters had each "grown up" from young singletons to thirtysomethings finding permanence in their careers and love lives but never losing the laughs.

Friends featured a parade of celebrity guests, but utilised most of the stars as more than mere cameos: The sextet's parents were all brilliantly cast, particularly Kathleen Turner as Chandler's drag-queen father and Teri Garr as Phoebe's dizzy mom. Everyone from George Clooney to Sean Penn to Julia Roberts to Bruce Willis has appeared on the sitcom, and Tom Selleck certainly enjoyed a career resuscitation after his recurring role as Monica's older man.

Yet, no star power ever penetrated the bond between the six stars and their unmatchable chemistry worked for ten seasons. Even though the show is probably repeated somewhere in the world every day, this boxed set of Friends remains watchable over and over again -- even if that theme song eventually grates on your nerves! --Sally Giles --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I have been a FRIENDS fan since I was about 7 and over the years collected the series one by one. They were getting worn and the DVDs scratched as they were double sided, so I decided to replace them. I looked at most of the reviews and realised that the low rating ones were mostly about the "Friends: Complete Season 1-10 (30 Disc Box Set)" and this is not that! This is the 15th Anniversary one! Those reviews confused me because they claimed the DVDs were double sided and there were scenes cut out, and high rating ones claimed the opposite! Amazon should have made this clearer as they have grouped reviews for both products together!

These are the things I think are great about the 15th Anniversary Collection:

- There are lines and whole scenes I haven't seen before! This keeps me watching it like I was when I hadn't seen it before because you don't know when there will be a scene they didn't air in UK, only in US maybe.

- It comes in a cute little white box! Very neat as the seasons are each in a normal sized DVD box and they lie lengthways in the white box. It's very tidy.

- There is an Episode Guide book! It has a whole synopsis at the beginning explaining what Marta Kauffman and David Crane had originally thought the show would be! So when you read it you can see the changes they made to the details as they went! It's very interesting.
It also has synopses of each episode like normal editions would, but has photos too, and at the back it has descriptions and explanations of some of the props that were important in particular episodes!

I have never bought a proper box set of DVDs before, but I was struck by the quality of it and how neatly it is organised.
Don't hesitate! It is fantastic value and you will not be disappointed!

I have owned the single DVDs for each series and collected as I went but decided to splash out on this 15th Anniversary Box Set. I received it yesterday and can honestly say it is money well spent. Not only does it come in a lovely presentation box but there are bundles of extras.

1) All episodes are the extended US versions which means some people who have the single DVD versions won't have this.

2) Each Series box contains 4 single sided DVDs which is a major plus. Previously the series was put on double sided DVDs and the labelling wasn't very clear. Now you get 4 discs per series.

3) In addition to the episodes for each series you get extras on every single disc. I won't describe each one as they are listed on the Amazon product page. However, die hard Friends fans will be pleased to see that you get some great extras such as my favourites which are:-
Gag Reels from series 1-4 and 6-10 (not sure what happened to series 5)
Interactive Trivia game
An hour long behind the scenes documentary
The Friends stars thoughts as the final series comes to a close.

4) You also receive a nice Episode guide book. The book details each episode with a description and pictures. You also get an additional few pages at the back detailing some of the more famous props.

5) The DVDS come with Dutch and English subtitles.

My overall opinion is that this box set is well priced and an absolute must have. The box set isn't too bulky so fits nicely in with other DVDs and also looks particularly nice in its presentation box.

If you are a fan then order yourself one won't regret it!

What a deal! being a fanatic of friends this was a clear christmas pressy choise for me, and dispite the somewhat 'large' expense of the item, with concideration the 130 quid price tag and the fact that individual perchase of each 10 box sets would equal just under 200 smakers...The offering price is extremely good value, with a saving of around 70 quid!...NOT TOO SHABBY...Having all the DVDs in one concise box is real groovy! and looks smashing too ...makes all me friends jealous! hehe...
For any friends fan, this is a must have!...

I have the black box edition of this. I was impressed by that but unimpressed by the special features. I bought this for the additional features and am going to sell the Black box edition.
This edition of the Friends Box Set is brilliant. It's the best way of watching Friends. The extra features are brilliant for Friendsaholics.
This isn't much of a review. More me saying that this IS the best Friends box set out there. The Seasons are are inn better cases, single side disks, smaller all season box. In my opinion better box art. Full episodes the ones aired in America. Unseen parts in UK.
If you don't have the 10 season box set and are thinking of getting it. This is the best of the three money will buy you.

Blu-ray Boxset vs 15th Anniversary boxset? Blu-ray boxset is the way to go! These are the original broadcast versions, the ones we all know and love. I'm not a fan of the extended episodes (15th Anniversary boxset), the extra scenes ruin the flow of the episodes with many sub par scenes re-added. These scenes were cut for a reason and they don't hold up particularly well today. Many of the re-added jokes fall flat. I'm really happy we have the TV versions on Blu-ray.

236 episodes all in shiny HD with hours of extras. The discs come in two plastic cases (with artwork), individual disc holders. You also get a bonus disc with some new extras. Included is a colourful episode guide with loads of pictures.

Some people have said the picture is grainy, not on my TV / Blu-ray player it isn't - the picture is crystal clear! Friends has never looked better. However, on my old TV / Blu-ray player the picture was often extremely grainy. The beginning of Rocky was terrible, full of ant like white noise. Try changing your HDMI lead, picture settings, if not sadly you need a new setup.
