Amazon.co.uk Review
Nine years is a long time for any group of Friends to stick so closely together, but somehow the gang are still as daftly charming as ever. After the birth of Emma, Rachel comes to terms with being a mother surprisingly well. It's how everyone else deals with it that makes things interesting. Joey's accidental proposal creates weird friction between him and Ross, who breaks his finger throwing the show's first ever punch. Monica becomes desperately broody and attempts all manner of convoluted ways of persuading Chandler to father a child (unfortunately he inadvertently bankrupts them in a move to Tulsa!). Phoebe, on the other hand, occupies herself in the dating game, holding on to Mike (Paul Rudd) in the longest guest-star relationship anyone's ever had. Other surprise guests this year include Freddie Prinze Jr as an overly sensitive nanny (in the 200th episode), Christina Applegate as another of Rachel's sisters and Jeff Goldblum playing himself on the set of another movie on which Joey is trying to get a break.

As always the sparks occasionally fly between Rachel and Ross, while the others manage to strain their own relationships to the max. The real reason for watching now is the one-off kooky scenarios in which they--or rather Joey--get into. His endless dating finally sees him stuck for remembering if he's already slept with a girl; he botches an attempt at eyebrow waxing; and he manages to make Chandler think Monica's after a breast enhancement. --Paul Tonks

Synopsis
Here is the entire 9th series of FRIENDS which follows the lives and loves of six young-ish New Yorkers: Monica (Courteney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Ross (David Schwimmer), and Chandler (Matthew Perry). With the usual quota of misunderstandings, chaos and romantic entanglements which has seen it attain ever-higher levels of popularity over the years. The first four shows alone see mistaken wedding proposals, double dates with complete strangers and a potentially odd sexual fetish from Chandler. Rachel attempts to come to terms with her new found motherhood and the struggles of finding the perfect nanny. Elsewhere Joey forgets that he is supposed to be part of the Thanksgiving parade until he sees his television cast mates on live TV! Both Rachel and Chandler are having problems with attractive coworkers, whilst Joey is chasing Rachel's new nanny. Rachel is still trying to work out whether she likes her coworker Gavin, whilst Joey takes method acting to a new extreme to impress a famous actor (Jeff Goldblum). Monica is still trying to become pregnant, regardless of the situations in which she and Chandler find themselves. Later both Chandler and Ross are listed as dead (thanks to a Chandler prank on their old University website) whilst Rachel is starting to have feelings for Joey who in turn is making moves on a glamorous palaeontologist. Series nine reaches its climax when things come to a head as they all decamp to Barbados to see Ross's big speech at a conference. Phoebe has to choose between Mike (scared of commitment) and former boyfriend David (home from Siberia). Meanwhile Joey and Rachel come to terms with their feelings for each other, which is lucky as Ross has gone off with Joey's girlfriend! What a finale!
Includes the episodes The One Where No One Proposes, The One Where Emma Cries, The One With The Pediatrician and The One With The Sharks, The One With The Birthday Dinner, The One With The Male Nanny, The One With Ross's Inappropriate Song, The One With Rachel's Other Sister, The One With Rachel's Phone Number, The One With Christmas In Tulsa, The One Where Rachel Goes Back To Work, The One With Phoebe's Rats, The One Where Monica Sings, The One With The Blind Dates, The One With The Mugging, The One With The Boob Job, Includes the episodes The One With The Memorial Service, The One With The Lottery, The One With Rachel's Dream and The One With The Soap Opera Party, The One With The Fertility Test, The One With The Donor and concludes with the double episode, The One In Barbados.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 5 Feb 2009
By Louis Vallance "fs geek" (Sheffield, SY UK) - See all my reviews
Once again Bright Kauffman Crane Productions brings us a fantastic season of Friends. Who could forget the hilarious tensions between Ross and Rachel as they attempt to bring up their child whilst trying to maintain separate love-lives? What about Phoebe's serendipitously new found love for Mike? Jam packed with laughs, giggles and side-splitters, Friends season 9 is bound to deliver a consistent level of pleasure to all who watch, although I would recommend the entire season 1 to 10 box set.

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series, not so good packaging., 7 Jan 2006
By A Customer
As lots of people, I love Friends, and feel that Series 8, 9 and 10 take on a different tone to previous series. Series 9 and 10 in particular certainly focus more on the relationships, with many storylines coming to a head. Adding to that, the humour becomes if possible even better, and more surreal (if that can be applied to Friends!) then this is an almost perfect series. The only quibble I do have is the box set itself; perhaps I have been spoilt on other box sets such as Frasier, Lord of the rings etc, but the 3 flimsy disc sets of an individual, plain disk, is rather disappointing. That said, its not the box you'll be looking at, but enjoying 24 wonderful episodes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Be careful - packaging and sound quality not as good, 23 Nov 2004
By A Customer
I bought this edition as the price was incredible, and owning all other 8 of the series - also thought it would be good to save some space. Be warned though - the sleeves are in ultra thin cases with no real defined spine to define them, and the paper used is very cheap - looks a bit like a good colour copy from the original. Dipping inside, we now have 4 episodes on each side of the disc which is great - but although picture quality is good enough - the sound has been downgraded from the 448kbps HQ track on the previous sets (4 to a disc with extended versions) to 192kbps of the older DVDs.

Also, the subtitles are enabled by default so I had to turn them off for each new side or disc played.

Altogether disappointing as there was plenty of room for Warners to leave the audio at high quality.
