Product Description

Product Description

Friedland Response CCTV offers a wide range of wired and wireless CCTV products to suit every home. They are easy to install and simple for the whole family to use. With a wide range of accessories available, the kits are easily expandable for added security and protection.

There are wired cameras for protecting larger properties and wireless cameras for simple installations. Dummy cameras are also available for added visual deterrents.

The Friedland Response CA1 2-Channel Digital Video Recorder can be easily integrated into either a wired or wireless CCTV system. You can connect up to 2 wired or wireless cameras and monitor them individually or simultaneously as a picture within a larger picture. The larger image will be the one which is being recorded at the time, leaving you the flexibility to monitor the other. The DVR also offers motion trigger recording, so filming only occurs when there is something to film and you can program the sensitivity and area settings to suit your requirements. The Friedland Response 2-Channel Digital Video Recorder has a built-in SD card slot to support up to 2GB memory card and also comes supplied with a 2GB memory card. This allows 12 hours of recording per channel or up to 20,000 photos. The DVR will also date and time stamp the footage so it’s easy to see when captured incidents take place

Although this is advertised as a 2-channel recorder (and it does have 2 camera inputs) it can only record one (pre-selected) channel.

The maximum length of video recorded per event is 10 seconds. It then waits (minimum 1 second) for another trigger before starting recording again.

Having checked with the manufacturer before purchase that this works with the CA10 camera I discovered it does not. As light levels change (dawn/dusk, clouds etc) the camera adjusts and every adjustment triggers a record event, as often as every 15 seconds. As a result the card is soon filled with recordings of no movement. The system is limited to SD cards (SDHC are not accepted) so 2GB (as supplied) is the maximum.

Initially Friedland Response's Technical Helpline said it was a defective system, and Amazon swapped it, but the replacement was identical.

The Technical Helpline were adamant it was my problem caused by interference or a 'noisy' mains supply. I bought an un-interruptable power supply. I moved the system to another area away from any possible interference, all to no avail.

It took weeks (and many, many calls to their premium-rate support number) before their Technical Helpline admitted the problem exists and there is no solution.

This recorder just might work better with the cheaper (read lower resolution, worse low-light capability) CWK-1 CMOS camera, but when coupled with the CA10 expect 300 to 400 'false' triggers a day.

This recorder does "what it says on the box". I set it up 10 metres from the appropriate wireless camera and plugged it all in. A picture immediately appeared on AV3 of my TV. The menus are easy to use and within 5 minutes I was recording pictures of every visitor who entered my yard.
There are two "negatives". The picture is not great resolution and one would be hard put to read a number plate unless close. The second is that it records whenever the view changes. Hence a car with badly suppressed spark plugs driving past triggers it, as does a bird or just the shadows moving during the day. However, with 20,000 pictures recordable on the hard drive, this just means that you would have to flick through a few before finding the one you wanted.
All in all, given that this is the lowest cost piece of CCTV equipment available that I could find by miles, I am very pleased with the results.

great little recorder, has a 2gb SD card that comes with the device and when it comes to recording its a life saver!
records 6 seconds not 10 that the manual stats other than that its great! oh and you can choose from video to snap shots
the colour aint great but i dont mind that. for evidence and recording, perfect in my opinion, especially if up close.

For the price I never expected it to be superb, however this must be the worst DVR on the market. Ten second recordings with a three second break and poor quality recordings. You would be deluded to think that you could gain anything useful in cctv footage if your house was broken into. The motion sensitivity adjustment is inaccurate and you end up with thousands of pointlessly recorded images that you can scroll through wondering how long the button you are pressing will last before it jams. The only praise I will give this badly manufactured defective system is that you can successfully record someone with compromised mobility knocking your door if you've only popped out for half an hour. Conclusion being that you wont have to scroll through 1024 images and if it was anyone fast the motion detection would not activate. Turd in a box.

When hooked up to the wireless camera this unit decreases the picture quality dramatically - additional cables and connections I suppose. The unit happily records movement in bushes by wind, but misses people and vehicles in its "detection zone". Have sent it back for a refund.

Was very scepticle about this little unit. To look at, it looks so feeble and you wouldn`t think it would have the capability to do what it says on the box. But it took me just a couple of minutes to set it up, and after the first 24 hrs of use, i checked the recordings, and must say i am very pleased. At the moment i only have one camera with it, but will soon add a second. I can honestly recommend this item to those not needing any sophisticated recording equipment.

DVR records 10 seconds at a time when the image changes. Seems to record sometimes when the image hasn’t changed and other times doesn’t record when the images changes. I read one review that said the DVR needs to be within 4 feet and I thought this was exaggerated, it’s not. You can have the DVR further away but your image becomes distorted with grey lines running through the image which gradually gets worse the further away from the camera. Id of preferred something that continuously records, however I've not seen this yet for wireless. I’d recommend anyone looking to invest in CCTV to get a wired system. You still have to connect the power cable, therefore what’s 1 extra wire for the sake of a clear picture and constant recording? On the plus side, the DVR is very easy to use and setup. Although I’ve not seen any options on the DVR itself on how to review footage (I presume the only way is plugging SD card into a PC.
