Product Description

Product Description

Many moons ago, a foolhardy attempt to win a drunken bet resulted in Tony Hawks embarking on one of the most unforgettable experiences of his life. Joined by his trusty travelling companion-cum-domestic appliance - i.e. his fridge - he found himself in the midst of a remarkable, inspirational and, at times, downright silly adventure. His journey was chronicled in a book that would go on to be an international bestseller - "Round Ireland with a Fridge". In "The Fridge-Hiker's Guide to Life", Tony looks back on what he learnt on his quixotic quest. Namely: if all you have between birth and death is a journey, and if the journey is all we have, then wouldn't it be best to make it fun? Such is the Philosophy of the Fridge.Reflecting on the many encounters he had along the way - occasionally fraught, frequently hilarious and sometimes poignant - and the colourful cast of characters he met, Tony realises that following mantras as simple as 'Do something silly' or 'Find the courage to follow your intuition' can make a huge difference in making life that little bit more enjoyable. Witty, charming and uplifting, "The Fridge-Hiker's Guide" will make you look at both life and your kitchen appliances in a whole new way...

5.0 out of 5 stars He has done it again!, 5 Oct 2008
By Ms. A. Steven (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Tony Hawks has once again reeled us in with his humour and charming wit. His recent book "The Fridge-Hiker's Guide to Life: How to stay cool when you're feeling the heat" is an inspirational novel with a genuinely interesting outlook on life.

Tony talks of the lessons he learned from his first book when he travelled round Ireland with a small refrigerator (Round Ireland with a Fridge) and uses examples to support and explain his ideas. As a result the readers get to see a slightly different side to Tony - more vulnerable, more human.

As with his other books, it is a very funny read but what makes this one slightly different from his others is that it has some really good advice about how we can makes things easier for ourselves in a world where everything always seems so difficult.

I would recommend this book even if you haven't read his first book as he explains the important parts again. And if you have already read the original one but not for a long time, it is definitely worth reading even if just to re-live his mad journey!

1.0 out of 5 stars rehash of old idea, 23 Dec 2008
im glad i didnt buy this book but got it from the library as has been already said this appears to have most of the context of the previous book about tonys tour with a fridge and i made the mistake of thinking this was a all new book.I like tony hawks and his writing but not when its just a rehash of whats gone before.Buyer beware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 29 Oct 2008
By M. Poulter "Hay Festival Fan" (U.K.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was looking forward to what I perceived would be a follow up to "Round Ireland with a fridge". Unfortunately, "The fridge-hiker's guide to life" is a major disappointment.

I have thoroughly enjoyed "Round Ireland with a fridge" and to a slightly lesser degree "Playing the Moldovans...", "A piano in the Pyrenees" and "one hit wonderland".

As stated by "an avid reader" (Customer reviewer) this book is just repeating the vast majority of "Round Ireland with a fridge" with just a few additional sentences. As such reading is laboured because you already are aware of future events.

If you have not had the pleasure of reading "Round Ireland with a fridge" then this would probably be a good read, however I would not recommend it to a fan of the previous and original book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good the second time around
Round Ireland with a Fridge was hilarious. Unfortunately, this follow-up is an uneasy cross between the original book and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Read more
