The box set comes in an outer slipcase cover holding four seperate slim-style Dvd cases containing to discs each.
The backs of the cases claim that parts 3, 6, 7 and 8 have commentary tracks, but when you play them you find out that's not so.
Part 1 has a 20 odd minute making of and a commentary. Parts 1 - 6 all have a Trailer...and that's it, no more extras.

The Dvd's seem to be re-packaged older discs. Part 1 is an older Warner Bros Dvd. 2, 3 and 4 are silver discs with text. And 5 - 8 have artwork that match each other.

The picture quality on the films looks good and the sound clear. Part 7 is in 5.1. Why none of the others are is a bit strange.

So it's not the same as the U.S. release like others have stated.

I would recommend the set if, like me, you don't already own any of the previous Dvd's, but if you were looking for something more then forget it.

Bizarre 13 Oct 2008

Just got this box set. Very odd, the back of the DVD parts 3, 6, 7 and 8 say they have commentary tracks, but they don't!?
Part 1 has a short making of, but nothing we haven't seen before.
While I will still keep as I didn't have them before, this is a real shame as the U.S. box set (although only having slightly more) seemed far more exciting.
Paramount should be ashamed of themselves for releasing such a badly put together box set. If you dint even check that the writing on the back of the box is correct, then you don't care about your customers.

Friday the 13th - Despite warnings by the superstitious locals of a "Death Curse" Steve Christy hires a group of young people to help him re-open Camp Crystal Lake. Camp Blood is the name given to the camp by local residents as a result of the camp's dark history of tragedy and murder. The innocent roam the area while being stalked by a dark figure in the shadows, and are murdered one by one by an unseen assassin. This is the original horror classic introducing Jason Vorhees with it's famous shock ending and spawning an endless amount of sequels, many of which are featured in this boxset. This is definitely the best in the series.

Friday the 13th Part 2 - In the second film, it is retroactively revealed that Jason has actually been living as a hermit in the woods next to the camp for several decades. Having watched his mother's demise from afar, Jason tracks down the heroine of the first film and resumes his mother's work, hacking and slashing through numerous other victims at the nearby camp. This is not a bad sequel but lacks the black comedy that make some of the later films so good.

Friday the 13th Part 3 - In the third installment, Jason acquired his trademark hockey mask. In this entry, Jason stalks a group of teenagers and a motorcycle gang who are spending time at a farmhouse near a lake. A pretty decent sequel but also quite forgettable. Not one of the strongest films in the series.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter - The fourth installment continues on from Part 3 as police and paramedics are busy cleaning up the mess Jason Voorhees left at Higgins Haven, including the defeated hockey-masked killer himself. Once delivered to the morgue, Jason rises again and makes his way back to Crystal Lake. A good end to the first part of this movie saga.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning - The fifth film picks up with a mentally troubled adult Tommy Jarvis at a halfway house when a series of familiar murders start up. However, the killer is not Jason, but a copycat avenging the death of his son. Awful, just awful. Avoid.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives - In the sixth entry in the series, Jason has been supposedly rotting through the years since Part 4. Seemingly ignoring the events of the previous film, Jason Lives opens with Tommy Jarvis digging up Jason's corpse so he could destroy it. When the body is unearthed, Tommy is filled with rage and pulls off part of a nearby fence and stabs the body multiple times, leaving the pole erect in Jason's chest, only to have the pole struck by lightning, bringing Jason back to life. From here on, Jason is now a zombie. This is probably my favourite film out of the whole series after the original. It's funny, gory and action-packed and is also has a clever way of bringing back Jason to the series in his new immortal form.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood - In the seventh film, a telekinetic girl revives Jason again from the bottom of the lake where Tommy had left him imprisoned. By far the worst film in the whole boxset, even worse than Part 5.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan - Jason Takes Manhattan picks up sometime after the end of the previous film, where Jason is resurrected again, this time by an underwater power cable which gets snagged by a boat anchor. From there he boards the cruise ship that's on it's way to New York, where he stays for most of the film, slashing its teenage passengers who are aboard the vessel for their class trip. Probably the second most famous film of the series and also one of the most entertaining. Ridiculous but enjoyable.

This is a great boxset of one of the best series of horror films, spanning over 2 decades. Parts 5 and 7 and both pretty bad but a worth a watch if you're going through the series in order, otherwise don't bother. It's also worth getting the other Friday the 13th films, Jason X and Freddy vs Jason (Jason goes to Hell is dire - only pick up if you're a collector), to complete the collection.
