Friday Nights 11 Mar 2008
Format:Hardcover
I am a fan of Joanna Trollope but this book is a huge disappointment. The characters remained one dimensional, were not at all credible or engaging. It was obvious that aspects of the book had been 'researched' to the hilt, but it lacked both plot and cohesion. Lazy writing from such an accomplished author.

A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
I am a Joanna Trollope fan. I have always loved and enjoyed her work. For me, she was an author who could make me think while reading her novels, 'Hey, I've felt like that - these characters are REAL people'. I could hardly wait for this one to be offered for sale. But it's not good or enjoyable at all. The characters are vague and indistinguishable. I found myself flipping back through pages to find out which character was which. I couldn't somehow get interested in their stories and their problems and concerns seemed trivial. For the first time ever, I read a Joanna Trollope novel doggedly, just wanting to get to the end and hoping all the time it might somehow improve. It didn't.

Friday Nights 19 April 2008
Format:Hardcover
How I wish I'd read Amazon readers' reviews of this novel before buying it. For weeks I've been forcing myself to 'give it another go' but time after time I've failed to become engrossed in the characters' lives. Such a disappointment from one of my favourite authors.

The worst Trollope yet
I am a big fan of Trollope and I have read all of her books. I thought that this was nothing like her usual style and definitely not up to her usual excellent standard. Read more

a total disappointment
what a load of dribble, i had to double check that it was joanna trollope. there is no plot, just the ramblings of a writer
who has lost the plot.

Where was the plot?!?
I can safely say that this was the most awful book I have ever had the misfortune to spend my good money on!

The fundamental story was bizarre and unrealistic. Read more

Feeble
I agree with the other comments regarding 'researched to the hilt' etc. Very poor and surely would never have been published had it not been from JT. Read more

Terrible Trollope
The maxim write about what you know holds good for published writers as much as for the great unpublished masses. This novel wears its research extremely heavily. Read more

Wading through treacle.
My first [and probably my last]attempt at Joanna Trollope.
Read it for my book club - otherwise it would have been consigned to the 'charity shop' bag. Read more
