Synopsis

Jason Voorhees (Richard Brooker) returns again to Camp Crystal Lake, where he drowned nearly three decades before while some negligent camp counselors made out on the beach. Understandably upset by this turn of events, Jason continues to haunt his old stomping grounds, dealing death to those thrill-seeking teens who venture into the woods. This time around, Jason faces tougher victims in the form of a motorcycle gang and dons his trademark hockey mask. The film was originally presented in theatres in 3-D.

Special Features:

Fresh Cuts: 3D Terror
--We seek out new interviews with actors, writers, key production members (not included in the previous DVD release) --plus special guests (i.e. horror experts, celebrities at “Scarefest”) --to provide fresh new stories about the film.

Legacy of the Mask--We chart the evolution of the mask and the face behind the mask through the first eight films. We’ll talk to filmmakers, make-up artists, and Friday experts to explain what changed from film to film. And our expert graphics department will create a unique way to transition between Jason’s evolving looks.

Slasher Films: Going for the Jugular--How do you define a “slasher’ film and what are the rules? Using Friday the 13th films as a focal point, we’ll take a tongue-in-cheek look at this horror subgenre, with help from Friday cast members, and horror experts. Includes a quiz on the ‘rules’ of slasher films.

Lost Tales from Camp Blood Pt 2 and 3--The 'killogy'--new camp counselors meet their grizzly fate at the hands of a viscious killer. The fans clamour for deleted scenes. Blogs and rumors run rampant that they exist. But according to director Sean Cunningham, they don’t. So why don’t we create one? Our resident horror filmmakers will produce a short vignette in the same style as the original, complete with terrifying visual effects as a new camp counselors are killed off by unseen killer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is Paramount trying to cut the Blu-Ray format's throat?, 26 Oct 2009
By Mr. Blu (Europe) - See all my reviews
This is primarily a review of the Blu-Ray transfer and not the film as such. If you want to convince someone to go Blu, don't show them this piece of junk. Congratulations Paramount on releasing the worst Blu-Ray I have seen to date. The print is dirty, many scenes have several black flecks that linger on the screen for what seems like an eternity and Jason sadly does not come up and stab them. The film is very grainy, not just in night and indoor scenes, and the wild fluctuations in the grain will make it hard for even the ideological grain-lover to accept and defend this one. Colours are unnatural and overcooked. Sharpness, depth and plasticity are all foreign words to this would-be HD impostor. I had the impression that only the US release was in 3-D. But here there are numerous fatuous scenes (juggling, the yo-yo) where an object seems to come 'towards' you only to blur repeatedly in an odd manner; presumably a relic of the 3-D effects? In any case, there are no 3-D glasses provided. And the True HD soundtrack is often shrill, thin and tinny.

Give a 27 year old film a chance, you say? Why, when Part II is older and boasts a very good picture and soundtrack? I can think of no conceivable reason to buy this film on Blu-Ray rather than DVD (or even VHS, you might think at times). The film itself is probably where the Jason fans and the general film fans who occasionally like a good horror film (e.g. me) begin to part company. I thought the plot was the thinnest yet of the original trilogy and felt like more of a franchise extension than a genuine sequel. The acting is also pretty bad. Some people slam the recent Nispel flick, but that is wall-to-wall Meryl Streeps and Al Pacinos compared to some of the acting on show here. And the witless incorporation of 3-D 'showcase' scenes sometimes beggars belief.

It is not entirely unentertaining, and depending on your mood I guess it is possible to enjoy this film, just don't watch it straight after Part II (like I did) and don't buy it on BD.

2 stars for the film, 0 stars for the BD quality, averages out at 1 star.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3D?, 8 Mar 2009
By D. Gregson "mr_darreng" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There is either something wrong with my eyes or the 3D effects just do not translate onto the small screen. There are moments when you think, 'hey this is working', foreground/background elements separate giving you a sense of depth. Generally though I found the 3D effects just become blurred with echos of both red and green.

Warning, it could end up giving you a headache!

5.0 out of 5 stars The American release of Friday The 13th Part 3 is in 3 D with glasses provided, 11 Feb 2009
By David - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Once again the American dvd release is much better than the poor UK release. This release of Friday The 13th part 3 contains the 3D version as well as the 2D version. It also comes with 2 pairs of 3D glasses which means you don't have to watch it on your own. The print is pritty good in 3D and is presented in full 2.35 widescreen. If you don't want to watch it in 3D for some strange reason, the disk also contians the normall version in 2D.

The UK release does not contain the 3D version. I guess they were too tight to invest in the 3D print which is a real shame - even the UK blu ray release doesnt include it - what a waste. This dvd is region 1 coded so you will need a multi region player. Judging by the vastly superior American dvds compaired to the UKs multi region dvd player sales should be on the increase.
