Frida's paintings 24 May 2003
Format:Paperback
Through very detailed and researched information, Hayden Herrera, takes us on a journey of Frida Kahlo's paintings and life.

This book shows almost every painting by Frida Kahlo; in a very good quality photographed, page sized image. The author describes the paintings according to what was happening at that moment of Frida's life, and goes on to explain the meaning of all the objects included in her art.

It also contains some sketches illustrating what would finally be paintings, and many photographs of Frida Kahlo relating to the painting being discussed.

This is one of the best books I have read about Frida Kahlo. Expect a great analysis of her work.

Frida 29 April 2009
Format:Paperback
I love the art of Frida Kahlo, especially her self portraits with monkeys, cats and parrots, so it was a joy to obtain this book and find in it beautiful illustrations of most of her artworks in full colour and in full page size. There is also a detailed and interesting text by a Kahlo 'expert' which makes reading very enjoyable.

I first came to know about Frida Kahlo when I watched a movie about her life. As I like arts and as I have bought also a book about Fridas life by the same author, I decided to buy this one about her paintings too. This is a big book that presents Fridas paintings and analyses them deeply (but not in a boring way), crossing all this artistic data of the artist with her personal moment of life, as well as with the influence of the historical moment Frida lived in. Very good book if you like not just to see good art printed, but also if you always ask yourself why artists paint the way they paint, what are the factors and historical influences behind that.
