Gina Gardener's first and only album remains a classic in the genre of Hi-NRG and camp disco-pop. There are some pretty incredible tracks on offer here: namely 'Ooh Ahh ... Just A Little Bit' and 'I Belong To You'. Elsewhere, the title track is irresistably cathchy and light on the ears, the ballad 'Everytime' has an intro so exquisite it is almost monumental, and 'It Doesn't Mean Goodbye' proving to be quite prophetic. Perhaps releasing 'Gimme Some Love' was a mistake, since 'Higher Than Love' is similarly emphatic, but the better song of the two. This is such a fun record: my favourite lyric being "My brother doesn't like you / My sister thinks your cool" from 'Rhythm of My Life' being especially giddy and adolescent. However, one of the best songs is the euphoric 'Follow The Light'. One thing about Gina G is that she has such a large cult following, perhaps due to her iconic imagery (note how fantastic the artwork is here), and the mystery that surrounds her (she did not release a follow up). She did record another album, but it was not released due to legal reasons. A few recent collaborations have surfaced online, the best of which is "Heaven" showing a more Dannii Minogue/Kelly Llorenna-esque sound. Nevertheless, these songs will never go away for a lot of people, of whom hold a very special place in their hearts for her. I too, had long been intrigued by her, and finally got this CD for a Christmas present. It was well worth the wait.
