Terrific collection of patterns cherrypicked from Rowan's Studio leaflets 26 Oct 2010
By Carol S. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"Fresh Fashion Knits" contains approximately 20 patterns cherry-picked from the pages of Rowan's Studio Collection leaflets. The Studio Collection leaflets are released quarterly by Rowan as a way to put out patterns that are more responsive to fashion trends (although they rarely are so out there as to go out-of-style quickly). If you've got all the Studio booklets, then there aren't any new patterns here for you, but if you don't have any or many of them, this collection is a treat. All the patterns are sweaters for adult women (no accessories or skirts or dresses) and all come in a size range from about 32-34 inch bust size to 42-44 or so. There's a good mix of cardigans (with varying sleeve lengths), pullovers, vests and wraps, even a tank top. Most of the garments are for cool or cold weather wear, although there are one or two spring/summer pieces knit in cotton. Obviously the garments are all shown in beautiful Rowan yarns, with gauges running the gamut from chunky to one fingering-weight; most are DK/worsted/aran weight gauge. No technical section, no how-to-knit directions, just a straightforward collection of lovely patterns presented with elegance and style.

Excellant styles and easy patterns 28 Dec 2010
By Lisa J Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I received this Rowan knitting book as a gift and started knitting a tunic for myself the next day!
The styles in this book are very creative and wearable with clean lines. As an advanced knitter, I found the patterns to be fairly easy, with simple stitch variations to create interesting detail.
Definitely a great purchase for knitters looking to update their garment styles to 2011!

Fashion-forward, like you'd expect from Rowan 19 Jun 2011
By D. Boyken - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
When you think of Rowan, you probably think about their gorgeous yarns, but you can't ever forget about their patterns, too. (And with their magazines, how could you?)

This book gathers 20 designs from their in-house designer Sarah Hatton. According to the press release, "This collection of fashion-conscious designs features the best of the Rowan Studio collection with playful skirts, sexy tops, chic dresses, and delicate cardigans. These fashion trends straight off the runway translate perfectly into the innovative knitwear designs found in this book."

The layout of the book reminds me of a knitting magazine. All the pattern photos are grouped at the front of the book, with the actual patterns at the back. The photos are artistic, as you'd expect, but seem honest in that they're displaying the designs fairly, without trying to hide unfortunate details in the photo shoots.

Also, refreshingly, almost the entire book is devoted to the patterns. There is a page introducing the book, and about 5 pages at the end with details about the yarns and some really basic notes about the importance of gauge. Unlike some books, though, it's not all "filler" telling you how to cast-on or decrease. (Hey, some people like having references right in the book, others hate paying for instructions on things they already know.)
