Amazon.co.uk Review
Tram's pesticide-free, homegrown version of the slow-core sound--think of a whispery British riposte to
Low or
Red House Painters with acoustic guitar arpeggios, a fleeting oboe and charmingly unobtrusive string arrangements--is bustle-free, green belt stuff with much in the way of wide open space and no room at all for lo-fi's traditionally over-ponderous, tune-skirting self-indulgence.
Frequently Asked Questions, the London based duo's second album, only sails too close to wind on the almost happy-to-be-sad sounding "Giving Up", a song which, by default surely, carelessly resembles David Gates and the sound of Bread. This is forgivable. After all, "Are You Satisfied" and "Now We Can Get On With Our Own Lives" both conjure up images of a semi-comatose
Neil Young strumming with a heavy-lidded
Grandaddy, whilst the instrumental "Folk" authentically recalls the leafy English folk-revival world of 1969, Joe Boyd-style production and all. Watch out, too, for the cover of
Tim Buckley's "Once I Was", featuring John Parish on slide guitar.
