Words fail to fully describe my enjoyment of this music, the sound quality and these performances.
The program itself is wonderful. An hour of music that seems to fit together perfectly, even though the three pieces are very different, although of course they are all French. The early Debussy offers some respite from the genius of the first and last trios. The Faure is my new favourite chamber piece by him, even more delectable than the Quartets and Quintets, and the early Debussy is full of melodic invention, just as lovely as the piano pieces he wrote at the same time. The Ravel is something else entirely, if anything it shines even more brightly than the two preceding works. Such intensity in the final bars of the last movement, such luminosity, as to defy belief.
The sound quality is nothing short of miraculous. Exceedingly warm and bright at the same time, whilst the players' phrasing, sense of connectedness and involvement in the music marks it out as something truly special.
