Divine!, 14 Mar 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The French Kitchen: A Cookbook (Hardcover)
Coming from a large robust and slightly insane family with a penchant for massive buffets of food I instantly fell in love with this book. The recipes are simple, the tastes divine. I am not really a fish lover, yet some of the recipes in here even made my mouth water! In actual fact, the real reason I bought this book is because of my husband. He loves chocolate but hardly ever has any as he is worried about his weight, cholestral, all these things, but when I found out that the recipe from Choclat is in here, the drinking hot chocolate, with the chili, I was sold. And you know, I have been thanked for buying the book every time I make something from it, especially the hot chocolate. I have bought a copy for a friend of mine and she loved it to bits. After she opened it and paged through it, we absconded to the kitchen and immediately started baking one of the cakes. It is worthwhile. It has been set out beautifully. It is informative and I can't wait to be able to go and visit France on an extended stay and truly take part in the memories evoked in this book.

Stunning, 1 May 2003
This review is from: The French Kitchen: A Cookbook (Hardcover)
The French Kitchen amazed me. Harris and Warde collaborated to ensure that we can access to some amazing recipes that are presented beautifully with lush pictures and captivating text. We get the best of Harris's rich and diverse command of language and Warde's incredible passion for all things food. I read Fran Warde's column in Red Magazine religiously and have used her menu plans for Christmas etc with excellent success. This book simply reporves what I already knew about both authors - they are incredible. I shake the hand of whoever's idea it was for them to work together!

A delicious look into bucolic idyll - and other recipes.., 30 Nov 2002
This review is from: The French Kitchen: A Cookbook (Hardcover)
I don't like cook books. Never have (probably because I don't like cooking). But this.. this is so much more. This is a story, an experience, a nostalgic meander down memory lane, and oh yes, there are some mouthwatering recipes along the way. The way JH talks about each recipe, the origins, the simplicity and the rich history.. they are mouth watering. And the passion for food (now this I can understand) is so embracing and inclusive - you want to get a mixing bowl and start making something. Each section is a story, each recipe, a fond memory. JH has managed to do what no other cook book/relative/friend/foe has managed to do. She makes me want to cook!
