I bought this book because we recently moved to Monaco and I wanted something I could fit in my purse that would help me with common questions/phrases. The reviews I read convinced me that this would be it. Well, it is barely enough to get by...most of the phrases are open-ended with a number of fill-in-the-blank options, but the options are very limited. Maybe 5-7 variations per phrase. The book is divided into sections by topic: the basics, getting around, money, hotel, food, drinks, havin' fun, sports & gambling, makin' friends, shopping, and tech talk. So, it does cover a number of situations. There is a "disclaimer," so to speak, at the beginning of the book that would've cautioned me that this was not the product for me had I read it before purchasing the book. Outside of the phrases given, there are no helpful tips as to how to say common verbs in french and their conjugations. Also, the dictionaries in the back are very abbreviated and many of the words I wanted to look up were not there. All in all, this product is more for young adults who are in France for a brief period looking to party and hook up. I have switched to using McGraw Hill's "Just Enough French, 2nd ed.," which has all the phrases and then some, along with verbs and their conjugations, numbers, public notices, abbreviations, time, days, months, dates, season & years, holidays, countries and nationalities, conversion tables, clothing sizes, etc. I will probably end up giving this book to my 18 yr old neice for when she visits.
