Gritty crime thriller, from director Stuart St Paul, about a group of Russian criminals operating a sex trade in the heart of Northern England. Led by the ruthless Cristi (Danny Midwinter), the gang kidnaps and traffics a group of Eastern Europeans to Leeds, forcing the men into illegal fighting and the women into the sex industry. When they capture local businessman Gabe Taylor (Billy Murray)'s daughter, however, things turn ugly, and it's a race against time to get her back alive in time for her wedding.

3.0 out of 5 stars as a Friday night DVD, this does its jo 29 April 2011
By Mr. H TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
So here's yer basic premise. A Russian gang who're into human trafficking Eastern Europeans (selling women into sex slavery and the men to illegal fights) crosses paths with a local businessman Gabe (played by Billy Murray out of Eastenders). Kidnapping his soon-to-be-wed daughter, a turf war escalates. Cue lots of running about, shouting and fighting.

Despite the modern theme, it's actually a fairly traditional thriller, almost the Sweeney with added macho, as Craig Fairbrass (also out of Eastenders) helps Gabe rescue his daughter from Danny Midwinter (out of The Bill), the evil Romanian mafia boss.

Aa befits a film helmed by a stunt director, Stuart St. Paul (Emmerdale, Seed Of Chucky), the set pieces are very good, but what it makes up for in fight scenes, it lacks in dialogue. But then I don't imagine that was really the point of this film. The actors actually do a good shift and are well cast, including Laura Aikman (Casualty) as Gabes daughtere.

It gets a bit confusing in places, as the two destinations (sex and cagefighting) don't really mix (unless your name is Jordan), and it might have worked better if they'd concentrated on one storyline. The Yorkshire tourist board won't certainly enjoy this, as the Leeds locations are invariably gritty, dark and unpleasant, but as a Friday night DVD, this does its job in the required 90 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freight 4 May 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I saw this film at the cinema. Found it a great action movie, good acting and well shot. This grabbed my attention from the start. I have now bought it on DVD and watched a couple of times. Edge of the seat action a good story and would imagine that this probably does go on in real life. I highley recommend this if action movies are for you.
