2.0 out of 5 stars USA biased 30 May 2007
Format:Paperback
This is a 'good' book as far as it goes. I, like other reviewers, can see that this is a book about Freemasonry as practiced in the USA. It has little relevance to Freemasonry as it exists in Europe. The belief that Freemasonry across the world is the same is quite wrong but this book reinforces that incorrect view. Even within the UK Freemasonry is substantially different. For example there are substantial differences between Freemasonry as practiced in Scotland compared that in England. People in Britain (and Europe) would be far better advised to buy the books: Cracking the Freemasons Code or The Rosslyn Hoax? which contains a huge range of material relating to Freemasonry in the United Kingdom. However, anyone wishing to understand the different kinds of Freemasonry that exist are recommended to buy this particular book.

2.0 out of 5 stars More for US Masons 23 April 2006
Format:Paperback
Although this book has some interesting information for the new and soon to be Mason, 75% of it relates only to Masonic Lodges in the USA. Apart from the 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree stuff, the rest is not relevant and actually misleading to anyone who is about to become a Mason in the UK. That apart, it does offer some useful pointers, just be aware that most of the information given about American lodges means absolutely nothing to someone joining a U.G.L.E Lodge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Freemason for Dummies 4 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
An easy to use book, I have used a few books for Dummies, because I could not be bothered to wade through loads of other books to find an item, these books give you information in easy to understand English, however this is and American written book, So has an American slant on freemasonry, it does cover loads of things to do with freemasonry, but a lot is not used or relevant to UK freemasonry. Having said that it does have some little gems in it, I would recommend it to anyone wishing to learn a little more about the subject, just a shame there is not one covering UK freemasonry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and to the point 15 Oct 2012
By Diane U
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was originally looking for a brief explanation of the Masonic symbols (having just visited the beautiful temple in London), and this was just the ticket. After reading that chapter, I started from the beginning, and have found the book delightful, humorous, and concise. The author's ability to filter out the essence of a very complex historical subject is wonderful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative 23 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
The book is very informative, provides some interesting history, with information on the various degree's of Freemasonry, the only downside is that there is a definate bias toward American Freemasonry, with slight confusion on how this applies to other global organisations.
