Product Description

Product Description

The world of Freemasonry exerts a powerful influence on the modern imagination. In an age when perceived notions of history are being increasingly questioned and re-examined, it is perhaps inevitable that secretive societies such as the Freemasons find themselves at the centre of considerable speculation and conjecture. Giles Morgan examines its historical significance (George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were both Masons) and its position and role in contemporary society.

Does what it says 21 July 2010

This book, as stated, is intended to be a pocket guide. That means it will never be a definitive history; nor highly controversial in the content it puts forward.

In terms of meeting its aim of being a relatively easy read and a broad overview of Freemasonry then I think it achieves that. I would recommend this book to non-masons or new masons as it is at just the right level.

If you want to read something far more in depth or esoteric; there's a whole wealth of other books out there.

A good pocket reference book for those who already know a fair bit about Freemasonry.

Book is written well and the information correct. Information is set out well and is in an easy to understand language that is suitable for the casual reader and expert alike.

Useful to those who are keen to know something of Freemasonry. The main content is heavily American led, which I suppose to those outsde of the UK (and perhaps within the UK)historically of some interest. Buy it!
