Book Description

28 Nov 2006
This is one of the best-known 'voice' books in the world, by a doyenne of the RSC and the New York theatre - now published in Britain in a revised and expanded edition. "Freeing the Natural Voice" offers a logical progression of exercises designed for professional and student actors, teachers of acting and voice, and everyone interested in vocal expression. The emphasis is on the removal of the physical and psychological blocks that inhibit the human voice; its objective is that the voice is brought into direct contact with the emotions, shaped by the intellect but not restricted by it. This revised and expanded edition of a book first published in America in 1976 - and now published in Britain for the first time - incorporates further exercises developed over the past three decades. The whole book is dedicated to 'freeing' the voice we were naturally born with.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant book! 26 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is a must for teachers and students of voice alike. Masterfully written, it is even more accessible than Linklater's earlier (blue cover) edition of this ground-breaking work. The exercises are beautifully outlined, creating a developmental journey through the whole voice. Although it is primarily aimed at voice training for actors and performers, it will be of benefit to anyone interested in freeing their natural voice. Linklater is an internationally recognised master teacher and this book is an absolute gem of a work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, inspirational, effective! 29 July 2012
Format:Paperback
Freeing the Natural Voice is a thorough, simple and inspired book and practical guide to the exploration of the human voice. There are no tricks, shortcuts, nor anything superficial about the way in which it takes your through a journey from body to breath to sound and finally articulation, thought, feelings and language. A must buy for anyone serious about exploring their spoken voice!

3.0 out of 5 stars I gave this to my friend 11 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback
I bought this book after reading a review on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I made a mistake, because i don't think this one worked for me. My best friend likes it though.

I don't know what any of it has to do with singing or learning anything and was a little bit "new age", if you know what I mean!

That said, I think it is more of what expected was wrong rather than the book - I didn't like this book but am sure that actors will like it. Thank you.
