5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!, 1 Jun 2009
By L. Granger "skybluford" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have just finished this book and am none the wiser about how it finishes. It gripped me from start to finish, as I knew it would having read the other two, I read it in two days. It was an amazing read and added more twists and turns to an already complex story. I really hope the authors of this book don't finish the story here as I am eager to read on. Thanks for a fantastic read!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fall into a wonderful world of adventure, 25 Aug 2009
Whilst I do not believe that the Tunnels series lives up to its supposed status of being the "next Harry Potter" that does not mean that it should simply be discarded. I think branding the series as such has done it a gross injustice - most are probably bound to feel that the series is a let down if they are comparing it to Harry Potter. And really the "Tunnels" series provides readers with a fresh and exiting world to fall into that has no real parallels with J.K.Rowling's world.

I must admit that at first the series appears wordy - descriptions are plenty and the wording is often lengthy. Sometimes I have felt that maybe the editors could have been a bit more lethal during the editing process! Yet the vocabulary is varied and whilst it does sometimes appear of a somewhat old nature, this does help to create a feel for the world in which young Will Burrows is slowly digging deeper into.

However, with Freefall, no such issues spring to mind. I have to admit that when I first got this out of the library I left it for weeks, only occasionally reading a few pages, but not really getting into the story. It had been a while since reading "Deeper" Deeper (Tunnels)and the previous plot was not so forthcoming in my brain.

But when I did actually make an effort to remember, the 500 plus pages sped by. The words that spring to mind are a "light read". I know this seems ridiculous: the books is almost as thick as a brick! Yet surprisingly whereas in the previous two books the writing had sometimes been tedious, Freefall seemed to flow effortlessly.

Which is truly a shame because some may have already have been put off at the start of "Tunnels" Tunnels (Tunnels 1)and will now be missing out on a thoroughly enjoyable and, crazily, easy-going read!

I would truly recommend readers to keep digging deeper!

4.0 out of 5 stars Down,down,deeper and down., 30 May 2009
By Thomas R. Hemmings (Leicester,England.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The tale continues down, down, deeper and down. The challenges that we started with, find father, defeat the dominion virus, escape to topsoil and find a home where Will can live safe from threat and stay true to his heritage are all addressed in this latest breathtaking and fast paced instalment.
The elements that I liked about the first two books are still around: the amazement with the World below, both it's ecology and technology, you can speculate about how those things and creatures work. The sociology of the challenge to the totalitarian Styx regime is great for getting you thinking about our own history. The parts about friendship, trust, parenthood and hope will lead to interesting discussions about your own `journey`.
I'm just starting to get a nagging worry that we've really met all these challenges and yet still there's another blooming thing to deal with ... but hey this is fiction after all and I should go with it. When I got to the end of this one I still really wanted to know what happens next and that's got to be good.
