Product Description
Freedom to Freelances - Part 1 Only
This is the story of one of the first significant internet campaigns in history. It chronicles the campaign against the British Government's IR35 tax by freelance IT workers.
The internet was in its infancy when the tax was announced, but freelancers came together to form one of the world's first on-line trade associations and then proceeded to use the internet to campaign as it had never been used before.
The group as well as delivering the first ever ePetition to Parliament, also organised one of the first flash-mobs to get people to lobby Parliament. Those were also pioneers in the use of internet funding of what we would now call 'crowdfunding'.
They raised over £850,000 this way and took the Government to the High
Court.
It is the story of an on-line revolution that is also a human drama.
Part 1 in this Kindle edition details the initial announcement on IR35 and the initial response from contractors that led to 2,002 contractors coming together to raise £100,000 to form the PCG.
