Whilst the idea of a wireless network storage device is great, this isn't it. Essentially I wanted a device to behave in the same way as my laptop - boot up, get a DHCP address from my existing router and wirelessly appear on my network for me to drop files to. However, this device has to be connected by cable to my router for it to work!!! Pointless.
My access point is in a broom cupboard, not somewhere I want my £300+ shiny new NAS box to hang out. However because of this restriction, the NAS box does indeed have to go in there and I have had to make arrangements for it, rather than it being able to sit in the office, safe and sound.
More disappointingly is the fact that the first Freecom support guy I spoke with, told me that I was just setting it up wrong and that is would do this. The second guy however told me straight, that it needed to be attached by cable.
The only way this would act as I want, if if the NAS box itself, acts as the access point for the entire network. How many people would seek out this type of thing, that do not already have a functioning router? So unless you want you NAS device to be your access point as well as your storage solution, look elsewhere.
