I bought this guided by the price, apparent versatility and ease of use, and reviews elsewhere. So far I am impressed, notably with Freecom, who provide a support phone number that actually commects you to a person - a helpful one at that. I had problems with the Roxio software supplied and they immediately sent alternative Nero software that offers more. I'm using it for data backup mainly but it installed fine and is very user-friendly. Good value.

Bought this writer not so long ago (at a higher price I might add) as I didnt want to go fiddling about with the insides of my PC.
I have had other external writers previously, but never a Freecom - and I can safely say, I am highly impressed.
I plugged in the writer to the USB slot, installed the software, gave it a reboot and off i went, I was writing DVDs within 15 minutes! (I can't understand why other people have had problems with the software - must have had a duff CD?)
I was sad to hear that there is a new model coming out according to the Freecom website (which looks really nice!) but never mind, as long as its basically the same machine, I shouldn't grumble!
On another note, their new HDDs look great too - think I may buy one to back up all of my PC! I feel another review coming on! ;-)

I had major problems with the Roxio software supplied with this rewriter. my computer crashed and would not restart. after three hours of diagnostics tests and help from a clever friend, I finally got the computer up and running again but unistalled the software immediately incase of further problems.
I have not used the rewriter as yet as I now have no software compatible with it. I have wrote to amazon, and awaiting a reply regarding this problem.
only buy this item if you have alternative software!!
