Secure hardware password protection The ToughDrive is equipped with a secure hardware 256bit password protection feature. Your password is encrypted and stored in a chip – the data on the drive can only be accessed by entering the correct password. The obligatory combination of the hardware chip and password to unlock the drive and access the data means that even if the internal hard drive is taken out of its original enclosure and assembled into another enclosure, people will never be able to access the data. Should you forget your password or should you lose your ToughDrive, the only way for anyone to be able to continue using the drive is by reformatting it, thereby erasing all data. There is no possibility for password recovery. There is no safer way to protect your data.

Costly, but very good. Discovered early on that you cannot copy files over a certain size (I think 4GB) to this drive whilst it remains formatted in FAT32. Could take all files off and re-format to NTFS, but cannot be bothered at this stage. I now regulay play this drive through my Sony Blu-Ray player onto my Sony HD TV. Great quality. Have even watched films with this drive connected to my home network, still no power required, works off USB. GREAT! SUPER! Highly recommend. Have also not bothered using the built-in password features.

I bought this as an expansion to my other 500GB portable hard drive so i could manage music and films more effectively. I couldn't be more happy with the product. Work uses these alot to post data too and from customers and we've only had a couple fail. Not bad considering that they are bouncing around the mail system constantly. I'm constantly using my personal drives to back up my photos and music and I'm always on the move. It's great to know that you have that reassurance that your drive won't fail if you drop it or it will take alot more than normal for it to be damaged, compared to other drives. The design is just really effecient as well - no more faffing with power leads and plugs. Great for if you are on a train or such like. I've had my 500gb one for three years now and it's not gone wrong once. Hows that for reliability. Hope this one has the same performance!
