I bought this card so that I could use a USB 3.0 external hard drive on my HP Pavillion desktop. I just followed the instructions and the card was recognised with no problems. As predicted, disc-writing is around 5 times faster with USB 3.0 than with USB 2.0. It's worth pointing out that there is a molex connector on the board which needs power (typical IDE disc power supply) - it's not made obvious in the description and it won't work without power, even if the device connected to it has its own power supply.
Bought this card about a month ago and hardly used it as I'm still waiting for my external hard drive to arrive, however, the card failed suddenly and nothing I tried worked. I contacted Freecom's support and they were not much help. It appears Freecom's product are not as good as they used to be.
