I purchased one these external hard disk enclosures to evaluate it, and found that it was supplied without the Windows 98SE driver disk that usually accompanies this type of enclosure. However, a bit of investigation revealed that the enclosure uses Alcor's AU6395 USB to SATA bridge chip, for which a driver can be found if you're willing to search the web hard enough. Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 from service pack 4 onwards should have a suitable driver already built in - I tested my sample enclosure on Windows XP and it was recognised without any problem.

A couple of other observations:

1) Build quality tends towards the "cheap and cheerful" end of the spectrum. I found that I needed to press the little printed circuit board more fully into its plastic shroud before the enclosure could be screwed shut.

2) The LED only glows red. It comes on when the USB cable is connected, and goes out during disk access operations. It also goes out when you use "Safely Remove Hardware" to unmount the disk. The light is enough to monitor disk activity, although my personal preference is for a green/red two colour LED. (Users whose eyes don't distinguish between red and green will, I'm sure, prefer this enclosure's red-only light though :-)

Prompt delivery, quality product, low cost. I was having issues with an Icy Box enclosure and mac compatibility (using the factory hard drive that came out of my macbook after an upgrade). Took the Icy Box back and got one of these for cheaper and this works with no problems.

Have popped in a spare laptop SATA drive and it works fine. I find the double plugged USB cable a bit annoying because I don't always have a USB multi-way adapter to hand.
The vinyl carry pouch fell apart around the seams. But the case itself seems to be fine.

A good solid caddy, but I'd recommend still handling with care. Makes a spare laptop drive useful again for taking files from my pc via usb
