1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, 23 April 2008
This review is from: FreeLoader Portable Solar Power Supply and Charger
I bought this to charge my iPhone and iPod.

When left in sunlight for a couple of days to charge, it will only boost the charge on my iPhone slightly. Claims that it will charge your device for free are exaggerated. Even when I charge the Freeloader battery fully using the USB connection, the result is the same.

I was planning to use the Freeloader while on camping trips of a few days so that I would be able to use my iPod away from the mains, but I'm not going to bother taking it. The tiny amount of charge that it supplies isn't worth the carriage.

2.0 out of 5 stars An alright emergency charger but don't rely on it, 25 Feb 2008

This review is from: FreeLoader Portable Solar Power Supply and Charger
I've been playing with my Freeloader now for the last 2 months, I even went to the trouble of buying the larger Solar cell that plugs into the USB port to decrease the charging time of the freeloader and I'm still not impressed:

I use 4 devices with it, a Samsung D600, a Nokia N95, a Palm TX and an Ipod Classic and it's very hit and miss, it can successfully charge the D600 to a degree as well as the Ipod but even at full charge via USB it doesn't do much besides bolster the charge a few percent on both the Nokia and the Palm, even with constant USB charging to full capacity it wouldn't suffice as a replacement for a real charger sadly.

Don't get me wrong it seems an alright device as an emergency charger, It'd certainly do enough to allow me to make a phone call on even the most power hungry handsets but don't be buying into the dream of free charges for life or guilt yourself into buying it because your latest electricity bill is a little high, even if you were in somewhere far sunnier than the good old UK the power output of the freeloader just isn't up to the task of more complex devices.

4.0 out of 5 stars I disagree..., 17 Jan 2009

I have to say my experiences couldn't be more different.

Camping at a festival I managed to charge my Nokia N95 from flat to full.

You can fully charge the battery via USB initially ( and this is recommended to condition the battery ) then I just leave it on a south facing window ledge.

Living in the north of the UK it won't fully charge from the sun in a very quick time, but proved to be handy to me. Even just to have it charged via USB and topped up via the sun.
