I purchased this book because my friends have told me that it was a complete guide for the mountains.I didn't regret it.The book gives you a clear aspect about the difficulties a freerider may encounter during their exposition to the mountains. To be more specific, the chapter 3(snow and avalanche knowledge)is something that every skier must read in order to understand how easy is to be trapped by an avalanche.
In addition, Jimmy Oden has written this book in simple English so as to be read from persons with basic knowledge of the English language.

This book has a wealth of material and advice. It is well written with good diagrams. However, do not be lulled into thinking you know the subject afterwards. The best, possibly only, real way to learn is from a mountain guide in real situations learning in practice rather than theory. The book then helps to reinforce and remind you of what you have been taught and also helps to prompt questions.

I can really recommend this book, it really gives you a good insight into ski alpinism.
Unfortunately I was not really happy with the quality of the print. I happend to find a few ugly misprints right on the cover.
But not even the mountains are always impeccable...
