Blue and Mick have crossed path a couple of times. Their attraction for each other is mutual, but neither one has acted on it. Not even when Blue reluctantly complies to the terms of a bet he made with Mick. When they meet again a year later, Blue finds himself in the middle of Mick's latest mission, Only now he is the victim and Mick has to risk everything to save him. What transpires brings them closer than they ever thought, but once again luck isn't on their side when Mick fails to return from a job. With Mick's friend, Prophet, Blue goes after Mick.
I loved the characters that were introduced in this story. Both Mick and Blue were interesting characters to get to know. I only wish I could have gotten to know them better though. I enjoyed their interactions, but felt that there was something missing in their story. From the start I was curious about them. They seemed like total opposites, but perfect for each other. When they started their interactions and during that time that Mick 'looked' out for Blue after getting hurt I was more than curious to see where the connection that was developing between them ended up. And just when I was settling down into their story, WHAM! they're already professing their love.
Where's the doubt? the hesitation? I wanted to see some more emotions from them. I wanted them to struggle, especially Blue. For such an independent, strong man he gave in to easily in my opinion. Mick at least resisted and that made for some interesting reading. His struggle with his feelings towards Blue and whether or not to reveal his secrets kept me intrigued as to how it would all play out, so I was disappointed when it resolved itself so easily.
Other than the 'insta-love' aspect of the story, I found the story to be well-written and enjoyable. The sex was phenomenal, the characters were alpha-male delicious and the fast-paced action scenes entertaining. I enjoyed the action-adventure part of the story, especially seeing Blue, Mick and Prophet in action.
I read this story because my friend Lisa advised it on her review of Catch a Ghost, the first book in the Hell or High Water series by S.E. Jakes. I'm glad I followed her advice. In this story I got to know more about the Extreme Escapes organization and its members, which helped a great deal when I set out to read Catch a Ghost later on.
All in all, a great introduction to the Hell or High Water universe for someone who plans to follow up on the series.
