Review

'Sound and inspiring advice, as welcome to the penniless student as to the penniless actor!' --Emma Thompson, Oscar-winning actress and screenwriter

'Really useful, astute, entertaining and very, very helpful. It offers first-class advice... Lyndi Smith makes fundraising sound like having fun.' --Professor Susan Bassnett, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Professor of Comparative Literature, University of Warwick

'A life saver for teenagers about to launch into higher education and their cash-strapped parents. Lyndi, you could be saving us thousands of pounds. Thank you.' --Jane Fricker, parent

Product Description

Contrary to what many believe, education doesn't have to come at a price. Anyone can raise the funds necessary to pay their way through academic life, without getting into debt. Drama student Lyndi Smith won a much-sought-after place on a three-year course at RADA. But it came with a price tag of over £26,000. Ineligible for a grant or a student loan, Lyndi set out to discover what other resources were available to her. Without any prior experience, she constructed a fundraising campaign that raised over £26,000. Free Degrees explains and illustrates what it takes to raise money to pay for education, start to finish.

Good book 27 Aug 2009
By Cymro
The book tries to do what it says it does and to a certain extent the ideas seem good. Basically the theme of the book if be proactive and not needy. Lots of ideas to raise money some of which I definitely plan on trying myself. If you're struggling to think of ways to raise money to help fund your education get this book as it does have some useful ideas for where to start. But in the end it is of course down to you. This is not a quick fix guide.

Free Degrees 3 Oct 2011
By Lizzie
A straightforward, easy to follow guide on how to fund yourself through University and very relevant these days when students may end up with £27,000 debt at the end of their degree course. Obviously involves effort on the part of the student, but well worth it when they may end up debt free!
Would think it useful to all secondary schools to keep a copy in their school library in order to encourage their brighter students to go for it!- especially those students who feel they can't afford it or do not wish to start out in life with so much debt.
