Synopsis

FREDERICK FORSYTH, the internationally-acclaimed author of Day of the Jackal, The Fourth Protocol and The Negotiator, has created a series of six original and exciting spy thrillers. These screenplays, inspired by international headlines, have been devised by Forsyth and written by top screenwriter MURRAY SMITH.

A Casualty of War
After American F-111 bombers strike and destroy the personal headquarters of Colonel Gadaffi, the Libyan leader seeks revenge. His particular target is not so much America, but Britain, from whose bases the F-111's flew. His method of revenge... to give a gift of sophisticated arms to the Provisional IRA... Starring: David Threlfall, Shirly Hack, Amanda Burton, Nadim Sawalha and Alan Howard

Just Another Secret
East Berlin in the late 1980's. American agent Jack Grant has been sent there to find out why five C.I.A. agents have disappeared without trace. Slipping through the Berlin Wall, he exchanges places with a stagehand at a concert hall. As Grant burrows deeper into the Communist organisation, he uncovers a political time-bomb - a plot to assassinate the Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev. Starring: Beau Bridges, Kenneth Cranham, Alan Howard, Enn Reitel and James Faulkner

Pride And Extreme Prejudice
West German agent Bruno Morenz works part-time for British Intelligence. He falls in love with Renate, a girl whose apartment he supervises. However, after discovering a collection of incriminating tapes, he ends up killing the girl and her pimp - but are the tapes really about him? He now has in his possession, enough material to bring down half the state governments of the German Federal Republic. The chase is on... Starring: Brian Dennehy, Simon Cadell, Alan Howard, Malcolm Storry and Leonie Messenger

A Little Piece of Sunshine
The murder of the British Governor of the Caribbean Barclay Islands during a pre-independence election campaign, draws the world's press and a Scotland Yard detective to the scene. It appears that this murder is connected to organised crime and is more complicated a matter than it at first seems... Starring: Lauren Bacall, Larry Lamb, Phillip Michael Thomas, Chris Cooper and Kitty Aldridge

Death Has A Bad Reputation
The notorious international terrorist Carlos, known as 'the Jackal', is the focus of this gripping story involving intelligence networks worldwide. When Donatini, a US State Department employee, is assassinated, it's the beginning of an infamous reign of terror led by Carlos. A tale of revenge, deceit and murder ensues and the hunt for the notorious Jackal is on...Starring: Elizabeth Hurley, Tony Lo Bianco, Pamela Villoresi, and Alan Howard

The Price of The Bride
In the new era of the Glasnost, Soviet armed forces train with British forces on a Nato exercise. Colonel Orlove, top K.G.B. man, is determined to defect and escapes in the guise of a British soldier. With British and Soviet intelligence after him, he chooses to side with the Americans and offers some compromising revelations about his former employers. But is he telling the truth? Sam McCready, top S.I.S. man specialising in the Soviets, has his doubts... Starring: Peter Egan, Mike Farrell, Robert Foxworth, Alan Howard and Diana Quick

this is a 6 dvd set comprising of 6 of the best spy thrillers ive ever had the pleasure to view, based on 6 of frederick forsyths novels i can honsetly say i enjoyed each and every one of them

right now to the films they each have a run time of just over 1 and a half hours and star some well known names such as amanda burton from silent witness

casualty of war
co starring amanda burton and david threfall, this triller is set just after libya blame the uk and america for some american bombings held in libya in which colonel gadaffi is almost killed, libya decide to try and gain revenge on the uk as we let america use some of our air bases for the planes to take off and land from. sam mcreddy and his spies decide to infiltrate posing as a group of terroists to gain knowledge of a massive arms shipment meant for the ira

just another secret
starring beau bridges and kenneth graham, this thriller is set in communist held east berlin and jack grant is sent over the border by sam mcredy to try and discover the fate of 5 missing cia agents, this was one of the best thrillers in the set for me

pride and extreme prejudice
starring alan howard and brian dennehy, sam mcreedy sends brian moranz over the border into east germany to collect a war book from a double agent from communist russia, what mcreedy dosnt know is moranz is in the midst of a breakdown after killing his lover and her friend and moranz is now in pocession of one of the most important pieces of information in decades and is on his own in enemy terroitry, and has parted company with reality

a little piece of sunshine
starring lauren bacall, a group of islands the barclays which are under british rule are holding the first not so democratic elections prior to being given independence, one candidate is funded by the cuban communist regime the other is a columbian drug baron, the people are anti ellection because they distust the candidates but are too scared of them to protest, then the english govenor is shot and the whole saga is brought to national attention by the press, sam mcreddy and others investigate the murder, this was another really good spy thriller

death has a bad reputation
starring elizabeth hurley, this film is about carlos the jackel and his murder spree across europe , sam mcreedy's son is seriously injured in an attack and sam mcreedy seeks vengence for his sons injuries and takes on the russians and the kgb

the price of the bride
starring peter egan and mike farrel, this film depicts the tale of a russian army officer tryin g to defect to the usa while training in the uk, the cia are convinced but sam mcreedy of british intelligence isnt so sure

these are all great spy thrillers and i just wish they had made more, the acting can be a tad wooden at times but for me this jusst added to the charm of each of the films

I liked this short series of films when they were first shown on TV, perhaps a bit
dated now as they were made when the Berlin Wall was still up, but still enjoyable
in that context.

Unfortunately ITVs DVD department seem to have a frequent problem regarding quality,
and this sets the lowest standard possible.

The picture quality is very reminiscent of VHS, with poor definition throughout, which
leads me to think their DVD department is a bloke called Dave who simply records from
their videotape stock directly onto a DVD recorder.

Clearly they have never heard of digital remastering, as the trailers at the end
state they were shot on film stock, not video, so with remastering it should be possible
to make a decent HD copy; this one doesn't do DVDs justice.

Essentially what you are getting here is a plain brown wrapper presentation, programme only
with no extras, and the picture quality rather low, but thankfully at least watchable.

Could have been a lot better, though.

I bought the set - one word describes them : Grim. Poor cinema, acting and direction. Read the books and enjoy but I don't recommend these DVDs.
