4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD- quick learnig curve 3 Sep 2008
Hello,
Not sure about the other revievs, I have to say that as they seem bitterly harsh!
Fred gives a good feel of what slide is and the basics- not so much technique like muting and vibrato but thats is easy to mimic.
Fred is a guy that could go and jam with any band in the world! in almost any style-I think he is a real great guitaist and a sound guy who does a sound jobs in try to teach us something.
Nice one:)

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best lesson but not that bad 21 Jan 2007
I hoped this DVD would be a good introduction to slide playing but I was rather disappointed with it. I'd seen other lesson's by Fred and they were great (he's actually a very good guitarist, perhaps slide isn't his forte). I was looking for some instruction on basic technique (specifically damping) but like most slide DVDs I've seen it wasn't covered in much detail; I'd agree that Bob Brozman's DVD lesson are much better in this regard. I also didn't like the material much, it isn't very focused. Some tunes are blues, others sound more like rather twee rock `n' roll. The explanation isn't that great either, expect to spend a lot of time either rewinding sections or using the tab booklet.

I think the aim with this DVD was to give a general introduction to both electric and acoustic slide playing but it's lack of focus lets it down. There are better DVD lessons available, Bob Brozman's are good but I like Mike Dowling's best (so far).

5.0 out of 5 stars Bottleneck made easy 21 Aug 2011
As a guitarist I'm pretty much a beginner, but I do want to get into slide playing and I found this dvd to be a fantastic purchase. I chose this one as it has a section on playing slide in standard tuning - Fred has a superb knowledge of the fretboard and picks out partial chords all over the guitar that can be played with a slide. As I'm still pretty new to the guitar I've got enough on my plate learning the notes in standard without moving into alternative tunings. Fred's teaching on this dvd has been invaluable in getting me starting to play slide, I thank him very much for that. A much more experienced player than myself may find that (s)he would want more instruction on technique but as an overview of slide playing this dvd is by far the best I've seen. Fred Sokolow comes over as a lovely man, and has a laid-back teaching style is infectious and inspiring. It really has got me into slide playing much earlier than I thought possible and I highly recommend it.
