A Truely Great Read 17 Jun 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
When I collected my copy of Freaky Peaks, I couldn't wait to burst it open and read the factful, and sometimes witty text. Anita Ganeri is a great author, and writes with an entertaining flair. Freaky Peaks is a book all about the geography of mountains. It starts off with a great, but true, chapter about the first people to climb Mt. Everest. I won't go into many details - otherwise it might ruin the plot, but Freaky Peaks has got the facts and humour for any 9 to 12 year old who wants to know about mountains, all at a very good price. The only let down, for me anyway, is the miniscule amount of text in parts, with, I think, a little less text than Earth Shattering Earthquakes for chapter lengths, but still a great read for a long car journey. This book is absoloutely excellent when it comes to illustrations. The graphics and drawings are detailed and humourously crafted to add a twist of fun into them. The Horrible series is a great way to start off your childs, or a school library with 9 to 12 year old, fun filled facts. An outstanding read, which you can't put down.

'Does Geography grind you down?
Fed up with miserable maps, rotten rock piles and tongue-twisting terms?

Wave goodbye to boring geography lessons as you scale the heady heights of Freaky Peaks ...........

Gasp! ...at the jellyfish stranded at the top of the mountain.
Scream! ....when you bump into the legendary yeti.
Run for your life!...as an avalanche hurtles towards you.

And if that is not freaky enough for you....take a thrilling mountain tour from Everest to Kilimanjaro, read about the intrepid explorers who sang hymns to stay alive and follow a giant glacier as it carves out a ghastly groove down a mountainside.

It's earth shatteringly exciting!

Geography has never been so horrible!'
