I've followed Petes personal and professional story since the very early eightites, sometimes with delight and sometimes not. Whatever he's done I've either loved or hated it, but I've always been interested in it. Sorry to say it doesn't apply to this book. Lets start with the bad, firstly the length. It's huge print on very few pages, almost as if it were written for a child. I'll be the first to admit I'm probably not the fastest person to finish off a book, but this was read from cover to cover in about 4 hours. Second problem is the content. All of the subjects covered seem to be totally glossed over. There is nothing here written in enough detail to emerse yourself in. Everything feels like it gets a quick mention but nothing is persued fully. There must be so much of his life thats been missed out completely. Thirdly, Pete's personality is nowhere to be found. His quick wit, snappy one-liners and dry humour are completely gone. You can read it from cover to cover but very rarely does it provoke any emotion. Fourth, the included pictures are abysmal. They really are the poorsest of the poor quality. Moving on to the good points - none! It's so painful to have to rip this book apart because I'd normally be the first to defend him but it feels like it was written in an afternoon just for the sake of something to do. I've been waiting for this book to find out more about one of the most charismatic stars of recent times and I really feel let down by this.
