Book Description

28 April 2006
Pete Burns has found a new audience with his outrageous antics on Celebrity Big Brother. Whether being berated for wearing an alleged 'gorilla' coat, or destroying any one of his housemates with a withering putdown, he's the undoubted star of the show. But there's much more to Pete than meets the eye - and what with his extraordinary features and sense of fashion, that really saying something. He became a star with the band Dead Or Alive, who had a huge hit with "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" in the mid-80s, but until now he has never told his own amazing story. It includes frank details of his affairs with major rock stars, his long-time marriage, how he had to sell his GBP 2m house to pay for the plastic surgery that went wrong and caused horrific injuries to his lips. He's had an amazing career and still commands a huge global following. When it came to going into the Big Brother house, Pete declared he was not going to be a team player - and this sensational book about his life shows how he's always been a true individual and a born star.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big hope turns to big dissapointment! 20 May 2006
Format:Hardcover
I've followed Petes personal and professional story since the very early eightites, sometimes with delight and sometimes not. Whatever he's done I've either loved or hated it, but I've always been interested in it. Sorry to say it doesn't apply to this book. Lets start with the bad, firstly the length. It's huge print on very few pages, almost as if it were written for a child. I'll be the first to admit I'm probably not the fastest person to finish off a book, but this was read from cover to cover in about 4 hours. Second problem is the content. All of the subjects covered seem to be totally glossed over. There is nothing here written in enough detail to emerse yourself in. Everything feels like it gets a quick mention but nothing is persued fully. There must be so much of his life thats been missed out completely. Thirdly, Pete's personality is nowhere to be found. His quick wit, snappy one-liners and dry humour are completely gone. You can read it from cover to cover but very rarely does it provoke any emotion. Fourth, the included pictures are abysmal. They really are the poorsest of the poor quality. Moving on to the good points - none! It's so painful to have to rip this book apart because I'd normally be the first to defend him but it feels like it was written in an afternoon just for the sake of something to do. I've been waiting for this book to find out more about one of the most charismatic stars of recent times and I really feel let down by this.

2.0 out of 5 stars DULL , DULL , DULL 17 May 2006
Format:Hardcover
After waiting in anticipation for this book to come out i found it to be rushed and all about the money making.

I would like to have learn't more about his childhood and relationships and not just about the music.

after all, those who watched Big Brother wanted to read about the extrovert and flamboyancy we don't all remember the music.

As a big reader of autobiography and my i have read a lot i found this to be very disappointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars A wasted opportunity... 22 Jan 2007
By GWM
Format:Hardcover
I've always found Pete Burns to be a interesting character and enjoy Dead Or Alive's music, so I was very excited at the prospect of him releasing an autobiography. Sadly this book didn't meet many (if any) of my expectations.

It's sloppily written and erratic, skimming quickly over certain events and periods in his life. There are a few glimmers of interest, but I know that from reading and hearing interviews, Pete Burns has a lot more to say for himself than anything you'll find in this book.

It seems to be a very rushed effort overall- probably hoping to cash-in on his 2006 Celebrity Big Brother appearance. This is a shame, as I'm sure with a bit more time and effort this could have been an interesting and entertaining read. A wasted opportunity.
