Product Description

Incredible new solo album from Freak Kitchen resident mad professor, Mattias Ia Eklundh. Released around the world on Steve Vai's Favoured Nations label except in the UK where Proper Music Distribution will handle the album. Mattias has press commitments throughout the summer, with clinics and live appearances scheduled for the Autumn. A guitarist that takes the twisted world view of Zappa mixed with the virtuosity of Vai to create some of the most exciting guitar music available today!

The Road Less Travelled is very much an instrumental album, but if you were expecting a series of soundalike neo-classical metal backing tracks with the guitarist playing superfast scales ad-nauseam over them, think again!
Matthias Eklundh is a musical genius! No question about it! A fearless advocator of the most unconventional, tongue-in-cheek and crazy music around, using everything from toy phones to self-pleasuring sexual devices to get a huge array of weird and wonderful noises out of the guitar, and goes into musical territories that few composers would ever dream of visiting.
The cool thing is, however, that he makes it so accessable to anyone who cares to give this album a listen!
There's a whole smorgasboard (I've always wanted to use that word) of variety in the album, from frantic aural assaults, re-workings of some very odd themes, acoustic wizardry, humour-filled sonic passages and weird and wonderful tunes. Fans of Frank Zappa will have good reason to be excited here.
Fans of Matthias should also check out Ron Thal (a.k.a Bumblefoot) - another pioneer of the phenomenon of Freak Guitar, and a frequent collaborator with Matthias.
Get this album, and expect nothing other than the unexpected!

For those unfamiliar with Mattias's style, he is a genuinly amazing guitarist that combines elements of Vai, Gilbert, Buckethead, Morello, and Thal.
The album continues where the first one left off and contains more mad and wacky instrumentals that feature weird melodies, amazing shredding, clever tapping, and deft whammy bar abuse.
Stand out moments include the title track, the beautiful tribute song - Father, and two amazing cover versions - Smoke On The Water and Fletch Theme.
I have been listening to this guy's guitar playing for about a year now and have to say he is my favourite guitarist of all time alongside Paul Gilbert and John Petrucci (and thats pretty good company to be listed alongside!!).
Also worth checking out is his band Freak Kitchen that combines his dizzying solos with some great riffs, upbeat songs, and surprisingly great vocals (trust me - this guitarist is also a very melodic singer). Kinda sounds like a combination of Extreme, Kings X, and Steve Vai. Glad to see Amazon are now stocking these.
Whether you buy this album, Freak Guitar Part 1, or any Freak Kitchen album, just do yourself a favour and get one (any one!) of his great releases. A truly outstanding artist.
Nick

This album is a perfect sequel to the first, Eklundh's rather crazy style carries on and sounds spectacular.
If more music like this were at number one, then the world would be a much more interesting place, and one with some much better music.
The whole album is expierimental, which to me spells "We had some fun and made some music", which is a good thing. Throughout this album, the sounds that Eklundh can muster from a guitar, a wah-wah pedal and his amp are amazing, even with a large (and worryingly expensive) set of effects, I cannot get nearly as many useful sounds out of my guitar that I could actually put on an album.
My simple advice to all is that of you like lots of vocal, buy something else, if you like Vai and whatever, then buy this, if you are bored buy this and you will never regret it!
