This is an investigation into national and international fraud involving high and low finance from both sides of the fence. With the rapid expansion of electronic international trading it is now all too easy for the skilled fraudster to engage in shady deals, and it is estimated that the amount of fraudulently converted cash in the world at any one time, more than equals the gross national products of several Third World countries. In this work the authors set out to trace the recent history and growth of fraud and its consequences in the UK and America. They analyze several well-known recent cases, talk to the investigators themselves and take the reader behind the scenes to reveal the sometimes dubious world beneath the facade of big business. The cases discussed range from the serious to the ridiculous, from fraudulently claimed unemployment benefits and the work of organized gangs, to the case of priest David Asvat who faked his death in India and the Port Talbot housewife who used the same 10p coin in her gas meter for 13 years.
