From Amazon.co.uk

Frasier's fourth season was mostly about relationships. Niles (David Hyde Pierce), now separated from Maris, is back on the market like his bachelor brother, Frasier (Kelsey Grammer). That's great when the pair goes to a cabin with a pair of fetching women (Megan Mullaly, later of Will and Grace, and Lisa Darr), but Niles is never able to completely dispel his attachment to his suffocating wife... or to Daphne (Jane Leeves). His obsession with the latter gets an immediate burst in the season's first episode, in which he has to masquerade as Daphne's husband, then later comes to a head when she appears at his apartment door asking to stay the night. The boys have the usual disputes with their father (John Mahoney), including their disdain for the former cop's new girlfriend, Sherry (Marsha Mason), the boisterous, banjo-twangin', "gotcha"-playing bartender who would remain a regular cast member through the end of the series. Ex-wife Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) makes her annual appearance, this time when she and Frasier try to get Frederick into an exclusive prep school. And the title character? As much as Frasier teases his producer Roz (Peri Gilpin) about her dating habits, he himself is lonely, leading him to a memorable airport encounter with guest star Linda Hamilton and a season finale that proves a kind of a harbinger to the series' final episode. This season made Frasier a perfect four-for-four at the Emmys, winning its fourth consecutive award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Unlike previous seasons, this DVD set has no bonus features. --David Horiuchi

Product Description

All 24 episodes from the fourth series of the upscale sitcom about the middle-aged Seattle psychiatrist played by Kelsey Grammer, beset by problems largely of his own making. In 'The Two Mrs Cranes', Daphne (Jane Leeves) gets Niles (David Hyde Pierce) to pose as her husband when an old boyfriend comes to visit. 'Love Bites Dog' has Bulldog (Dan Butler) get in the way when Roz (Peri Gilpin) finds Frasier a date. 'The Impossible Dream' finds Frasier dreaming of being in bed with Gil Chesterton (Edward Hibbert). 'A Crane's Critique' sees the Crane boys overjoyed when Martin (John Mahoney) makes friends with a famous writer. In 'Head Game', Niles helps out the star player on the local basketball team, but is surprised to find the credit going to his hair rather than his therapeutic skills. 'Mixed Doubles' has Niles ready to declare his feelings to Daphne - until Frasier persuades him out of it. 'A Lilith Thanksgiving' finds Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) and Frasier trying to enrol their son Frederick (Trevor Einhorn) in a prestigious school. 'Our Father Whose Art Ain't Heaven' sees Martin and Frasier disagreeing over matters of art when the former buys the latter a painting. 'Dad Loves Sherry, the Boys Just Whine' has Frasier and Niles try to deal with Sherry (Marsha Mason), their dad's brash new girlfriend. 'Liar! Liar!' finds the Crane boys overcome with guilt resulting from a childhood transgression. 'Three Days of the Condo' sees Frasier fighting for his right to install a door knocker. 'Death and the Dog' has Martin hire a canine psychiatrist to help his depressed dog Eddie. In 'Four for the Seesaw', Frasier and Niles arrange a double-date. 'To Kill a Talking Bird' finds Niles troubled by his pet bird on the night of his flat-warming party. 'Roz's Krantz and Gouldenstein are Dead' has Roz help out at a retirement home. 'The Unnatural' see Niles try his hand at the game of baseball. 'Roz's Turn' finds Roz auditioning for a radio show of her own. 'Ham Radio' has Frasier attempt to stage a radio drama. In the two-part 'Three Dates and a Breakup', Martin ends his relationship with Sherry - but Frasier realises that it was all a mistake and tries to rectify the situation. 'Daphne Hates Sherry' sees Niles overjoyed when Daphne comes to visit his apartment. 'Are You Being Served?' has Maris serve Niles with divorce papers. 'Ask Me No Questions' finds Frasier pondering the question of Niles and Maris. Finally, in 'Odd Man Out', Frasier becomes so frustrated with his life as a single man that he rushes to meet an unknown woman who left a message on his answerphone by mistake.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterclass in comedy. 11 July 2005
Format:DVD
Series four demonstrates this masterpiece of sitcom at the height of its powers. The first nod must go to the brilliant writing team; shows such as 'Dad Loves Sherry, The Boys Just Whine' is full of great clash-of-character moments as well as acerbic one-liners. The ensemble cast is superb and, with three Emmy-winning series already under their belts, they confidently exploit the opportunities for moments of tenderness and melancholy (though these never descend into saccharine-dripping "Gosh, I love you pop" scenes like other shows). Episodes like the first one of the series hint at the elements of farce which pervade the later series, though here it is tightly scripted and performed. If you want a masterclass in comedy, this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just gets better and better... 11 Nov 2005
Format:DVD
Multiple Emmy winning Frasier remains the best comedy season I've ever seen. Season Four is arguably its peak, before the darker tones of seasons 5 and 6 came into play and before it declined in the later years due to Niles and Daphne finally getting together. However even the weaker seasons are great television and much preferable to watching, say, Eastenders or other mindless triple that we get churned out in the UK (sorry EE fans).

In this outstanding fourth season, you can see the characters evolve before your eyes... Niles' love for Daphne grows deeper, Daphne becomes more endearing (if that's at all possible), Roz turns her wise-cracking and bed-hopping ways up a gear, and Martin finds love with Sherry, the loud, colourful and banjo-playing antidote to Niles' and Frasier's elitist ways. And Frasier? Well, he's a little lonely, yet funnier than ever.

All the main and supporting cast are fantastic, Kelsey Grammer's portrayal of Frasier always seems fresh and funny and David Hyde Pierce's Niles is simply remarkable. His physical humour is second to none. Jane Leeves is the perfect addition to the Crane household, she's loveable and still has her little quirks here which unfortunately fade away during the later years. Peri Gilpin as Roz and John Mahoney as Martin are as loveable and funny as ever, Gilpin in particular shines.

In my opinion there is only one dud episode, Head Game, which had to be hastily re-written to work around Grammer's personal circumstances at the time and his presence is sorely missed. Episodes that deserve true classic status are Ham Radio, Three Dates and a Break Up, The Two Mrs Cranes, Mixed Doubles and To Kill a Talking Bird....

If you're unsure as to what commitment to make with regards purchasing TV season box sets, make it this one. The first three seasons are also well worth anyone's money. Buy it, you won't regret it. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than seasons 1-3 17 Nov 2005
By A Customer
Format:DVD
Having always enjoyed watching the odd Frasier episode on channel 4, I have recently gone back and rented the DVD releases starting in season 1, working my way up to season 4 and it is, in my view, the best one so far. The characters are really comfortable with each other by this stage but the jokes are still as fresh as ever and there are some real gems in here like "Ham Radio" that make you laugh out loud! This is a very consistently clever and funny season.
Enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly a remarkable sitcom 5 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Format:DVD
This sitcom just seems to get better and better. Excellent plots and storylines and the best thing about Frasier is not just the great comedy sketches but its more hidden agender of problems that sometime in our lives we come across and ideally how we can try to cope with them. Friends has situations like this in some episodes but Frasier covers a much more diverse range and gives an excellent approach to sitcom story writing.

Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce (not forgetting the rest of the cast!) interact really well together with hilarious (but well thought out) gags, situations, and slipups.

Very eagerly awaiting future seasons on region 2 encoding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Frasier! 14 Jan 2006
Format:DVD
For subtle nuance and knowing stares the cast of Frasier are perfect. There is the usual character inter play with the stories of each that you learn to love. Well crafted scripts leading to laugh out loud moments always with a large dollop of all out farce that Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce are perfect at expressing. An American export to happily hold its head high amongst the cream of British sitcoms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 28 July 2005
Format:DVD
Without doubt season 4 of Frasier is amoung the series very best. While Frasier never received the sort of publicity and popularity that Friends received, there is no doubt that this was the best comdey of the 90s. The introduction of new character Sherry is brilliant - she's Niles' and Frasier's worst nightmare, while Niles' infatuation with Daphne is taken to another level. However what i love about this series the most is its consitancy. With the exception of a few averageish episodes, every show is hilarious, and as it goes own you almost feel like you know the characters personally - a sign of a great sitcom. If you have a sense of humour this is a must buy - though if your new to the series i recommend getting the first three series which are equally brilliant.

By Mr. D. Woods VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Tne fourth season of 'Frasier' probably gets my vote as the best (though the first seven all have qualities that provide a convincing counter to this argument). The episodes are consistently strong, and filled with the brilliant farce and inspired word-play that makes 'Frasier' such essential comedy. Surely 'Ham Radio' and 'Three Dates and a Breakup' have to be among the show's finest moments and the cast exude energy and spark off each other as well as they have ever done. From the season opener with Daphne passing Niles off as her husband to deter a former boyfriend (incidentally, Clive has the strangest Manchester accent I've ever heard-until I saw Simon that is) to the genuinely touching finale that sees Frasier lose in love once again, this is truly satisfying stuff.

Great to re-visit 'Frasier' in its prime here and you should quickly follow up this purchase with Seasons 5 and 6.
