I bought this for my nine year old daughter because of her aversion to asking for help when writing, and the fact that she won't check the dictionary either. Typical child - always in a rush! This spell checker keeps her occupied with word games for hours, comes with us everywhere, and she can't wait to look up the next word. The improvement in her knowledge and interest has been fantastic. Ps. Very user friendly :-)

I bought this spellchecker for my dyslexic 11 year old son to encourage him to use the vocabulary he knows but cannot spell. I was very excited when it arrived as my 2 younger children entered words and got immediate responses of very useful information. However, my 11 year entered 10 words and the first 9 of these were not even included in the dictionary. I think this is a great spellchecker for younger children (p5 and under) but not much use for my son who's only in p7. Will have to look for a more expansive dictionary for him I think.

I bought this product for my two dyslexic children aged 9 and 10. Its main weakness is limited vocabulary. If the word is in the dictionary it works brilliantly.

Bought this for my 8 year old son for christmas, it's just started to switch itself off now and again when entering a word so having to return it. I do agree with some of the other comments though that it is more geared towards say P3 and under, my son who is in P4 entered some of his words he had to find the meanings of for homework and 4 out of the 6 weren't there, so this is dissappointing hency my 3 stars and the fact I am having to send it back. Think this is geared at younger age primary school but don't think it will do for later primary.

Purchased this for my 8 year old as her teacher suggested she was struggling with spelling and may even be slightly dyslexic where spelling is concerned. I researched which was the best spell checker for children with these type of problems and this is supposed to be most suitable.
She has found this very useful for story and poetry writing, however it is not completely reliable and can even confuse a child. For example when she entered the word pleas to find out how please was spelt it came back as correct - as of course this was a correct word with a different meaning. Used with supervision though it can be a very useful tool and the games are fun.
This is the correct level for her spelling and vocabulary at present (which is by no means limited) but I can see as her vocabulary grows she will require one with a more complex dictionary.

Just don't drop it as the lcd screen can break - this is our second one. Great wee machine - helps to give confidence for those with dyslexia - hence reason for splashing out on another one as they are not cheap!!
