Steamboat Elvis !,
By websurfer (Portugal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frankie & Johnnie [DVD] (DVD)
This 1965 musical film is a litle diferent from the usual Presley pictures, since the film is located on board of a Misissipi steamboat during the late 19th century. In Frankie & Johnnie Elvis plays a married man with a gambling problem and a very supersticious mind. But don't worry Elvis earns is living singing on board of the steamboat and the film is not a drama but a ligth musical comedy with a happy ending very different from the one of the title song.Elvis sings the classic "Please dont stop loving me" and "Hard Luck" among others. Also with Harry Morgan (M.A.S.H and The Shootist)the DVD presents a good enough copy on 1:66 aspect ratio(not the original one)and mono sound.

This review is from: Frankie & Johnnie [DVD] (DVD)
If you are a musical fan then you will like this especially if you are an Elvis fan (but you dont have to be an Elvis fan to enjoy this film). This period musical is about Johnny a singer (played by Elvis) who performs a play with a troupe of musical actors aboard a Mississippi riverboat. Johnny is dueted with his girl friend Frankie (Donna Douglas, famous for tv show 'The Beverley Hillbillies) who happen to be performing the musical called Frankie & Johnny. Johnny is also a gambler and extremely superstitious, and after some bad luck on the roulette wheel he and his friend played by Harry Morgan(a star of 'Mash')visit a gypsy fortune teller who informs Johnny that a redhead will bring him luck. Then he meets Nellie Bly (Nancy Kovack) his ruthless boss's girl who happens to be a redhead. Frankie, a blonde, is jealous when she sees them together and so is Johnny's boss and his loyal henchman plots to have Johnny accidentally murdered.
