Book Description

17 Feb 2011

Slowly I learnt the ways of humans: how to ruin, how to hate, how to debase, how to humiliate. And at the feet of my master I learnt the highest of human skills, the skill no other creature owns: I finally learnt how to lie.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.

Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.

Frankenstein, based on the novel by Mary Shelley, premiered at the National Theatre, London, in February 2011.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 31 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliant play of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein. It is very true to the novel and the portrayal of the Creature's learning and development of ideas is particularly well done. Excellent play and brilliant production at the National Theatre by Danny Boyle with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating the roles of Victor and the Creature. Fabulously done.

5.0 out of 5 stars incredible 9 April 2011
By Maya J
Format:Paperback
I have to admit I read this book after having watched the British National Theatre's production of the play which was mind-blowing. The play itself though is incredible too. It is evident that a lot of hard work was put into writing a version of Mary Shelley's original book that the modern reader can relate to and through the eyes of the Creature wonder about issues like the cruelty of our society and the repeated hybris of man. It's a play that I see myself reading again and again in future years just as a reminder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frankenstein 5 Mar 2012
By Katie B
Format:Paperback
Features the storyline of Mary Shelley's novel, with a twist.
it's very small and can be read in one day. I purchased this product after being blown away by the theatre production.
Good as a keepsake, a memorium, of the play itself.
I could picture the scenes as I read it, although I found myself reading the characters parts in the voices of the actors who played them.
