Frank Skinner Stand-Up was filmed in 2007 at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena, to a crowd of around 5,500 people. Not that you’d ever really know it, as Skinner’s gig makes it all feel so much more intimate. Whether he’s talking about his ‘romantic’ liaisons, singing songs about terrorists or musing on the state of his mind, it’s a razor-tight set, and a very, very funny one.
What Frank Skinner Stand-Up also manages to get across through is the man’s quite brilliant delivery. Camera close ups really get this across, but the timing and tone in which he tells his stories and fires out his punchlines is masterclass material.
Too often written off as a rude and crude performance, Frank Skinner in this gig proves once and for all that he’s one of the cleverest, funniest and most accomplished comedians in the country. And that’s why Frank Skinner Stand-Up, replete with some interesting extra features, is one of the very best comedy DVDs on the market. --Simon Brew

3 & a half stars,
By marky_77 (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frank Skinner - Stand-Up (Live from Birmingham's NIA) [DVD] (DVD)
I hadn't realized it was Frank's first stand up for 10 years. He is one of my favorite comics, especially his work on Fantasy Football, Unplanned and his talk show.
So, is the DVD funny? Indeed it is. So why only 3.5 stars? Well, the material is not very broad. Frank spends too much time on sex, or more so, his sexual experiences, in graphic detail. About 70% of the act in fact! It's all very funny but he could have moved on to something different just to break it up. A lack of material is apparent. The best comics on their day cover a lot more day to day misgivings. His visuals and timing are spot on however, and he writes a good song too while playing the banjo. His encounter with a horse was a highlight. He closes with an account on how people behave while txting, especially during the start of a new fling. It is so true, and this is what makes comedy work when comics touch on day to day activities which make us feel relieved in a way that it's quite normal behavior, but at the same time the mind creating it's own troubles. The material in the Billionaires extras segment is good enough to have been in the main show. His quick impression of Oko Ono was funny while talking about Heather Mills. This is still a lot better than Jimmy Carrs DVD also from 2008...

Super Skinner,
This review is from: Frank Skinner - Stand-Up (Live from Birmingham's NIA) [DVD] (DVD)
Let me be clear, this review is only 4 stars as I have not seen the entire DVD, however what I have seen was hilarious. The Songs including "My Mate Ali was a Dentist now he's a.... , and the rousing ukelele finale are superb. And the story of when Frank goes to Africa for Comic Relief and the humour they had was fantastic. Very, very funny indeed.
